Some inconvenient truths

I saw the news about the swastika painted on the office door of the university professor in New York today. It got me to thinking—besides wanting to ask Suzy Creamcheese (dba the USA), “honey, what’s got into ya?”

Here are some inconvenient truths we had all better get used to.

There will always be a Republican Party because, sadly, there will always be the kind of people a party like that appeals to. Also, certain interests will never get their way from the Democratic Party, and so will buy votes in their favor from for-sale Republican members of Congress and the Supreme Court.

Climate change will not abate due to a realization, sudden or gradual, that we need to stop it before it wipes us out as a species. We are looking at long-term damage control because we have only just begun to see a hint of the long-term damage that is coming from the harm we have ALREADY done--and we can’t even control that! One can only speculate about the damage we will cause from harm we have yet to cause.

Hate will always be around, because all children do not have happy childhoods, and some children that have unhappy childhoods will turn out to have some really unhappy adulthoods that they THINK they can avenge by buying a lot of guns and using them on people, or painting swastikas on people's doors or gravestones.

Fear will always be around because some people are never content unless they inspire fear in other people.

Jealousy will always be around because our commercial culture teaches society that having more is always better (corollary: you can never have too much, ergo, you can never have enough).

And finally (though never really finally): Some of us are going to keep plugging away DESPITE all that ugly crap listed above, because there are just a lot of really REALLY good people out there who really DO give a damn, and really DON’T need to have it all.
