Dow plummets 800 points over economic, trade concerns

Stock markets dropped dramatically Tuesday over concerns of a slowing economy and trade concerns, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average sinking as low as 800 points (3 percent), it's largest plunge since October.

The S&P 500 was down 63 points, or 2.3 percent.

The drop occurred as the yield curve flattened, and looked at risk of inverting, in what is considered a common early indicator of recessions.

In an inverted yield curve, bond traders expect higher returns in the near term than in the long term, an indication that the market expects the economy to do be worse in the future.

The financial sector led the plunge in the market.

When Democrats are in power, and considering something outrageous (e.g., raising taxes on the wealthy to pay all the bills their Republican predecessors ran up), we hear about nothing from the business community except for their absolute craving for "stability" and "predictability." Just talking about raising taxes gives these delicate Masters of the Universe a sobbing case of the heebie-jeebies. It's so unfair that the wealthy are being considered for a tax increase that they just can't possibly continue making slightly less obscene amounts of money! Other than supporting the civil society that made them wealthy in the first place, what's in it for them?

Now they have another Republican businessman running things from the Oval Office, recklessly bouncing from pillar to post with all kinds of ill-considered crackpot economic notions. The Dow is plunging, but where are the financial gurus and the money honeys to complain about all the instability the president is pushing on the markets?
