(115,858 posts)Most lawyers don't publish announcements when they take on the representation of a client, even a client who's made the news. And he's not even lead counsel for this one. At least we can be thankful that this tiresome ambulance-chaser has decided not to run for president, but his fifteen minutes of fame are more than used up.

(115,858 posts)If he were a genuinely-committed activist he'd pick a cause and work on it without tooting his own horn instead of pouncing on every high-profile case he can get in on, regardless of the underlying reason for it. Or he'd volunteer for an organization like the ACLU or the Southern Poverty Law Center.

(62,444 posts)She's facing three misdemeanor counts arising from scaling the Statue of Liberty to protest immigration policy. Who knew he was such a wiz at trespassing, that he'll need pro hac vice admission in New York for this highly unusual civil disobedience type of case?
Where this gets weird is that, hey, he could be doing something to, you know, actually fight the underlying policy like the scores of attorneys who are doing just that. A while back he claimed that he was representing whistleblowers in ICE and among their contractors, and he had also claimed to have taken on 50 immigration clients also in jurisdictions where he is not licensed; and the only thing that ever came of it is him offering to privately deport one child back to Guatemala or wherever, instead of representing him in an asylum application.
I'm sure the court which is handling her case will be thrilled at his arrival.

(115,858 posts)and would welcome his help - but he'd have to go down to the border and deal with a bunch of untidy, destitute foreigners. He might get dust on his Gucci loafers. He'll have to fly commercial with hoi polloi, though, because his ex just got his airplane and his Ferrari.

(62,444 posts)Please explain for what charge is "public opinion" an element of any defense whatsoever?
She's charged with three misdemeanors: disorderly conduct, trespassing and interference with government agency functions.
So, the defense is "It's legal to climb the Statue of Liberty if people think you ought to be able to?" Is that where "public opinion" comes in?
The way that civil disobedience works is that the person engaging in the civil disobedience is willing to endure the consequences as a demonstration of their moral resolve.

(115,858 posts)no matter what the reason for the charge, and nobody needs more than one lawyer to handle this simple case. She will probably have to pay a fine; she is not in danger of going to prison; and she doesn't need Clarence Darrow (or Michael Avenatti).

(124 posts)Good! I have a good feeling about this.
Michael Avenatti is very good at getting himself on television. Sometimes you need a hype man.

Right now, I simply need help with basics rent, food, utilities, and transportation so that I can both manage these new demands and continue my full-time activism.
However, you might consider donating to Avenatti instead, since he has some new expenses:

LOS ANGELES -- A Southern California judge has transferred assets including an airplane and a Ferrari from porn actress Stormy Daniels' lawyer Michael Avenatti as part of his divorce, according to court records obtained Thursday.
Orange County Judge Carol Henson on Tuesday ordered some of Avenatti's assets be liquidated and sold for back child and spousal support.
No words here.
