Chris Hayes had two people on talking about how a recession would impact his chances in 2020, apparently assuming he will still be around and be running.
Are we naive when we think he won't be around that long? Of course, when he was "elected," I didn't think he'd last this long, and I was very wrong.
Never in my 70+ years have I seen so many parallel universes coexisting.

(52,227 posts)i really don't think he expected or even wanted to actually win. i think he wanted just to increase his brand within the right-wing world (the only world that matters to him) and then make a mint off his own name.
i don't think he enjoys being president, so many people complaining about everything and making it hard for him to grift.
why wouldn't he just declare victory and leave after one term and then start charging hundreds of thousands per speech and millions to use his name on all sorts of products and otherwise raking it in?

(51,591 posts)He doesn't even like being the fake prez. A year ago someone asked hi what he would tell the 30 year old Donald and he answered sincerely, "Don't run for president".
It must be an ego/narcissistic thing.

(3,492 posts)His cult is never going to leave him no matter what happens, thats a given. And the GOP isnt going to vote to impeach him as long as their constituents support him. Until the people turn against him en masse and it goes against their personal interests to do so, they wont lift a finger against him.
The Republicans didnt turn on Nixon until they absolutely had to. There was no noble defense of the country in their actions. It was all self serving.
