(26,262 posts)My family is the complete opposite. Members of my family have been serving in the U.S. Military since the Revolutionary War. Five of my uncles served in World War 2. Two in direct combat.
My Uncle John went through hell, during the war. He was on 2 ships that were torpedoed. I have his military foot locker. In it is his uniform, documents, pictures, letters and 'souvenirs' from his time spent in the Pacific, during the war. On the inside of the lid is a calendar. It has been attacked to that lid since the day he placed it there. It will remain, for at least as long as I am in possession of the foot locker.

(4,723 posts)A boring, predictable, hackneyed repertoire. I doubt he has any interest in what the day means, because WWII wasn't about him. Just like visiting cemeteries on Veteran's day isn't about him, nor 41's funeral. He doesn't care about ANYTHING unless it involves adulation for his imagined greatness or money for him.
