Just to make it crystal clear, New York federal prosecutors concluded that the President of the United States committed a felony.
New York federal prosecutors conclude and assert that when Michael Cohen committed a campaign finance violation, he "acted in coordination with and at the direction of" Donald Trump (page 11), which means their other evidence is consistent with Cohen.

(7,134 posts)Someday, somehow I'm just hoping one of these court filings mentions him by name instead of hiding it behind "Individual No 1" or some such legal cover.

(8,955 posts)"11 Cohen was previously the subject of an FEC complaint for making unlawful contributions to
Donald Trumps nascent campaign for the 2012 presidency. The complaint was dismissed for jurisdictional
reasons, but it certainly put Cohen on notice of the applicable campaign finance regulations. See In the
Matter of Donald J. Trump, Michael Cohen, et al., MUR 6462 (Sept. 18, 2013)."

There is no hiding from it anymore.

The Liberal Lion
(1,414 posts)of course the Senate will not remove, but impeachment is now an imperative. In the House the potential will be there.

(11,885 posts)..DO nothing and refuse impeachment , they must know they too could be held for obstruction when a President committed a felony , and still refused to do what the law calls for them to do.

(34 posts)No. He apparently is above the law according to a Justice Department memo. Supposedly sitting Presidents can't be indicted for any criminal activity according to that memo. It's never been challenged in court.
Does anyone have a link where we can read that Justice Department memo?
And impeachment is certainly better than jail time and huge fines for Trump and his criminal family. If impeachment seems likely Trump will resign and go on to further enrich himself and family members. And he will go on to fund far right neo-fascist groups free from any prison time. No big deal.

(13,041 posts)even if they can't indict him now, the state of NY can - on a slew of other charges, after he's out of office. His kids as well.
Muskiteer
(34 posts)I haven't read anything in the Constitution or federal law indicating he can't be indicted.
And does anyone have a link to that alleged Justice Department opinion memo (just an opinion, not a law) stating the belief that a sitting President can't be indicted for criminal activity? Please post a link if you can find it. Thanks.

(8,923 posts)That's the remedy provided by the constitution for this very situation. Impeach him and then give him his trial in the Senate.

(4,291 posts)No wonder hes had his Depends in a bunch during the last day or so.
I heard Individual 1 was boarding Marine One and heading out of town earlier today. If he really knew what was coming down, hed have flown to Moscow or Vladivostok, where he could avoid extradition. (But not Vlads own system of justice).
Should have stayed in South America while he was at the G-20 earlier this week... but then, forward-thinking was never one of his strong suits.

(4,436 posts)That sentencing memo is direct and to the point. Induvidual -1 is Trump. Trump committed felonies. Multiple felonies. And engaged in conspiracy to commit felonies with Cohen. Its right there in black and white!

Oh yes, include Pence, McConnell and Ryan for campaign funding violations and for illegally conspiring against America by plotting with a foreign country etc. etc.
Of course, none of this should be done until Mueller's' full report is out, want to be sure to capture all the criminal & treasonous fraud these rw asses committed and let America see the Anti-American horror that the republican party has become.
