(9,581 posts)and he got cartons of cigarettes cheap at the commissary. He gave out cartons for Christmas to the garbage men, mailman, and anyone else he thought deserved a "treat." EVERYONE smoked back then it seems. My, how the times have changed (thankfully).

(12,509 posts)We would order a few cartons from the Chief storekeeper onshore, and once we got underway and we were outside US territorial waters 3 miles offshore, we would get our butts. I would get 5 cartons of my Marlboro's for $5.00.

Shes dying of COPD.
