Comey was probably not at liberty to disclose it's contents publicly, but the GOP leaders in Congress could've elected to do so.

The laptop was not classified information. That said, the GOP leaders in Congress did not HAVE TO disclose that Comey wrote the letter describing the existence of the laptop and investigation of it's contents. GOP Congress-Critters gleefully released it to the media, NOT James Comey.

The media didn't have to trumpet it to high hell once they found out, either. They also didn't have to forcefully and repeatedly call the occasion of looking at the laptop 're-opening the investigation' (Comey did not say in his letter to Congress 'we're re-opening the Clinton investigation', the MEDIA said that), when it actually was NOT yet, it only would've been *IF* there were new information pertinent to the case found on the laptop.

Which there was NOT ... which is also a fact that the media FAILED to trumpet to high hell once it was discovered to be the case after a mere few days (and well before the election).

I also think it could've worked out much worse for Hillary if Comey had failed to inform Congress, and something incriminating HAD been found on the laptop. Which he had no way of knowing ahead of time before looking at the contents.

Placing all blame on Comey as many here do ... is ridiculous, IMHO. He had a written obligation to Congress to let them know if anything else pertinent the case was found, IOW, the 'closure' of the investigation was always 'tentative' and based on no addt'l pertinent evidence showing up.

and they don't tell us every thing .. RIGHT NOW.. for national security reasons. There is going to be so much redacted shit in there that many of us will not live the 50 years or so before they start opening the files completely.
