Avoiding entrenchment of leadership was the only reason he gave regarding either candidate. That's a typical issue of concern for eager new members who are junior to decades of people who came before, and which lessens as they earn their own way up importance, or just in valuable seniority through continued service. It was hardly a dissing of Nancy herself.

That vote would not be even a slight problem between them. Of course. In fact, considering Beto's active support for Hillary for president, and the rest of his history, it looks to me like he was carefully avoiding being included with that year's collection of malicious misogynists.

He's a great guy and all, and if he had beat Ted Cruz, it would be like Neo blocking bullets in the Matrix-level political capital right there, but he didn't and so I don't see that star quality, I just don't.

I am going to keep an open mind until the Iowa caucuses which are a long time away.

I've said that about others who said they wouldn't support her when they were campaigning. I don't think we need to lurch to the right as Beto did at that time. He lost on that effort. That is a good thing. I like Beto a lot. It's not a secret that many Democrats like shiny things when looking at the national ticket. I want to see Beto keep marching forward. I want to see him hold off on a Presidential run though I would not disparage him if he did enter. Overall, he speaks well for us.

offshore oil drilling, which is a concern for me because I live in NC. I won't vote for him in the primary.
I'll vote for him if he's our candidate , of course. As President, there's a chance he'll be more liberal on issues since he's not just representing a district in Texas.

I wonder if he's part of No Labels.

So did Kyrsten Sinema, Michelle Lujan Grisham, Tim Walz...young talented Dems who left no doubt in part because they felt blocked by our hidebound House seniority rules. IOW, his vote was probably more about changing the rules and creating more opportunities for younger reps like himself than anything else. Anyone who holds that against him isn’t thinking clearly.

People can vote for the candidate they believe in at the time. I've cast a couple of Republican votes in my lifetime, but I don't think that makes me a leper.
