Senators dumbfounded by Trump vow to shut down government

Senior senators on both sides of the aisle where left dumbfounded on Tuesday by President Trump’s fiery threat to partially shut down the government unless he gets the money he wants for a border wall, which is unlikely.

Republican leaders have spent weeks trying to steer the president away from a government shutdown, but all that work went out the window earlier in the day when Trump declared in front of television cameras that he would be “proud” to shut down the government over border security.

“I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck, because the people of this country don’t want criminal and people that have lots of problems and drugs pouring into our country,” Trump told Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.) while cameras were still in the room before a scheduled meeting.

“I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I’m not going to blame you for it,” Trump said to Schumer and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), who was also in the room.

The frank moment left Democratic and Republican leaders stunned.

Any news (absent the little Fox) about the potential shutdown will be prefaced with Trump saying "I'd be proud to shut the government down."

Trump used the caravan for the midterms and is now back to using the fear of border insecurity to push for the wall again.

Are there really that many American People that live in fear of criminals; disease ridden sick people; drugs; terrorists; etc (like Trump likes us to believe) coming across the border - that Trump's fear tactics work?

i was having dinner with a colleague at a hotel in Baltimore and we were chatting about something and somehow the word "picture" came up. all of a sudden a complete stranger walked up to our table holding her phone and saying are you talking about the picture of the kid at the border that was a set up! that was a set up!

i said they did gas the people at the border and what did she say, they should come legally (incidentally they are trying to enter legally and are being immediately criminalized) or somesuch shit. Now i don't know if that picture was a set up and i doubt that it was, but i do know that what the US is doing at the border and to these desperate people is a crime against humanity and I'm not hearing it.

I just said conversation over. i was stunned that she felt emboldened to do that. total strangers. didn't have a clue what we were talking about. she just wanted to push her propaganda so bad, because she is just overflowed with the spirit of trump, that dark, evil spirit.

his cult believes in him above any and everything else. if he says those are bogeymen down there, they believe it.
