The CDC keeps warning people not to eat raw cookie dough -- even though it's delicious

The Christmas cookies are in the oven; the mixing bowl, which is still coated with the sugary sweet dough, is calling your name.

Don’t listen to it, health experts warn.

With holiday baking season underway, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is once again urging people not to eat unbaked cookie dough — not even a tiny taste — because “unbaked products that are intended to be cooked, such as dough or batter, can make you sick.”

“Say No to Raw Dough!” the CDC warns.

The potential problem is with two primary ingredients.

Raw flour can be contaminated with Escherichia coli (E. coli), and raw eggs have been a known carrier of salmonella bacteria.

Both bacteria are killed in the cooking process, but contaminated food that is not cooked or is undercooked has been known to make people ill, according to the CDC.

Whether I bought the refrigerated stuff at the store or making it by scratch.

She's an adult now and is unapologetic. In fact, she gloats about it.

Warn away for all the good it does.

I know I did as a kid, but I SURELY would NOT now.

Equally problematic is the "loving" pet owner that feeds their dog or cat a raw meat diet. While cats and dogs are generally a bit more resistant to Salmonella and Campylobacter infections and related illness, they can transmit it to us.

Funny that we are so neurotic about some "germs" and environmental contaminants and totally oblivious to others...

Its sound advice, cover all your bases, especially those with compromised immune systems but I’ve been eating raw cookie my whole life and so far so good.

What kind of cookie dough doesn't use eggs and flour? It's not even "dough" if that's the case.

13. Kinda. The egg is largely superfluous for dough

but one needs some kind of flour. As I speculated below I’m going to guess they heat treat or irradiate the flour.

to kill any pathogens and use either an egg-free batter or perhaps an irradiated egg product. My money would be on egg-free.
