Trump on Twitter Again Copping to Crimes He Supposedly Knew Nothing About

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
I never directed Michael Cohen to break the law. He was a lawyer and he is supposed to know the law. It is called “advice of counsel,” and a lawyer has great liability if a mistake is made. That is why they get paid. Despite that many campaign finance lawyers have strongly......

Bottomless Pinocchio is a category the Washington Post created for repeating false statements.

Trump’s the only recipient of this Pinocchio “award” so far.

whomever wrote these pathetic tweets does not understand the lawyer/client thingy...a lawyer takes direction from his/her client...and a good lawyer advises his client on the legalities/illegalities as to what the client is requesting...a good lawyer does not become complicit in breaking the law for his client and if the client insists on breaking the law the a good lawyer, as an officer of the court, is duty bound to hand his now former client his file and escort him out the door...the Trump/Cohen bromance was solidified the instant Cohen became a willing participant in Trump's filth and he was rewarded handsomely for it... remember Trump only picks the best people

Cohen, a lawyer, plead guilty to campaign finance crimes

Lanny Davis, Cohen's lawyer
Guy Petrillo & Amy Lester of Petrillo Klein & Boxer (Cohen's defense lawyers)
Geoffry S Berman, Nicholas Roos, Tom McKay, Rachel Maimin & Andrea Griswold of
United State Attorney and Assistant Attorneys for the Southern District of New York
Judge William Pauley
Two Members of the FBI involved with this case
Jeannie Rhee and three other lawyers from the Special Counsel's office

Thirteen lawyers, a Federal judge plus two members of the FBI (ignoring all the lawyers looking this over) ... all thought Cohen pleading guilty to campaign finance crimes was legitimate based upon the evidence and submissions provided to the court.

Even FOX's Judge Napolitano agreed with it.

But Trump is trying to tell everyone it was a scam ...

Thu Dec 13, 2018, 10:43 AM
Dec 2018

They could have made a vague entry for campaign finance in Sept for McDougal's $150,000 August payment.
They could have made a vague entry for campaign finance in Nov for Stormy's $130,000 October payment.
and added legal fees for it.

It would be months after the election, if ever, that the media found out.
And I think that would all be legal.

Am I missing something?

Cohen and AMI have admitted it was an expenditure and here's the reasoning of why it is problematic

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/dec/12/national-enquirer-trump-payments-david-pecker-catch-and-kill

American Media Inc (AMI) told prosecutors it worked “in concert” with Trump’s campaign when it bought Karen McDougal’s story of a sexual affair with Trump, which it suppressed “to prevent it from influencing the election”.
...
US law bars corporations from spending money to influence elections in coordination with a candidate or campaign. Prosecutors said that AMI’s payment to McDougal amounted to a secret in-kind contribution to Trump’s campaign.
...
But Wednesday’s agreement – struck in September but kept secret until now – means that federal prosecutors in New York now have testimony from two witnesses, Cohen and AMI, that the Trump payments were made to women in a deliberate attempt to influence the 2016 election.

13 lawyers and a judge seemed to agree that Cohen committed a crime here.

Had Trump paid for it directly out of campaign funds, I think it would have been an illegal expenditure. So either way, it's illegal.
