The GOP congressman from Texas stated his feelings about the center before the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. The committee met with Google CEO Sundar Pichai to ask questions about how the company handles privacy, viewpoints that may be deemed as controversial, and data security. During the hearing, Gohmert expressed that the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) stirred up more hate than any other hate group he knows.
"The Southern Poverty Law Center has really stirred up more hate than any other group that I've known," Gohmert said.

(16,079 posts)So Gohmert is admitting that he's acquainted with hate groups? You have to admit that was a brave move on his part, not many Republicans in Congress have the courage to do something like that, even Steve King tends to walk back his admitted associations with white racist groups!!!

(7,850 posts)you've stirred up more than any other group except maybe your like-minded buddies: the Orange Menace, his cabinet and "advisors", the Republican controlled Senate/House, the KKK, neo-nazis, et al.

(3,557 posts)I peruse a very right-leaning forum from time to time to gauge the rights perspective. I often see them refer to the left as being the real racists and I just dont get how they can even come to that conclusion.
Im really at a loss how someone could believe that.

(12,654 posts)They're so insecure that unless they can constantly prove to themselves that they are better than anyone who can possibly make them feel small or threatened, they're being dis-respected or attacked.
How dare you be intolerant of their intolerance? Their intolerance is just a warm, comfy blanket of good sense to them.

(182,803 posts)Most importantly they project. The are fed this endlessly in their media.
They also are probably clinging desperately to the well worn (and explained/debunked) narrative that it was Republicans who freed the slaves while Democrats resisted. They continue with this through Jim Crow and Massive Resistance- yes it was Dems that lead those but those Dems fled the GOP and the parties - since slavery - have completely flipped sides.

(11,738 posts)The man is an idiot in the first place. Second, he is just using an old, but unfortunately sometimes effective tactic of right wingers which is to label the groups who call out racism, hate, and extremism as extremist.
"Black Lives Matter are the real racists" Why? because they call attention to Black people being disproportionately targeted and killed by police?
"Al Sharpton is a racist" Why? Because he has stood up for civil rights and called out racism?
"Barak Obama was a divider". Why? Because he was Black and spoke about things from a Black perspective?
It is all the same tired tactic. It works on people who are actively racist, bigoted, ignorant, predisposed to accept the dominant discourse about racial relations, or people who are tired of hearing about privilege in society.
