What's Giuliani's angle in all this?

Why did Giuliani step into the Trump Vortex? What's in it for him?

It just doesn't make sense to me. He was a shitty mayor and he demonstrated his un-democratic views when he suggested that New York City should let him remain mayor even though he was term-limited. But he was a "normal" politician.

Back then, he was a pretty savvy politician. Something's changed. How in the world can he think being close to Trump will work out well for him?

During the run-up to the 2016 elections, Giuliani was practically giddy when he was told that there would be more dirt on Hillary Clinton. His friends in the SDNY or NY FBI probably leaked the Weiner laptop story to him. What made him act like this?

Interestingly, his soon-to-be ex-wife made a comment recently that he has become someone totally different than the man she married years ago. Has he entered a world of semi-dementia? Has something happened to him?

Why is he exposing himself to possible legal jeopardy?

I don't actually care that much but I just don't get it.

That consulting is really just trading influence for money. Being near Trump makes Rudy's influence worth more.

he never seemed particularly stupid. He had been pretty successful as a U.S. attorney back in the '80s, a job that requires a solid understanding of the law - which he no longer seems to have. The stuff he says now, and the completely insane legal advice he's giving his client suggests that he's gone off the rails mentally, not just that he's a rabid partisan.

But at least he seemed to have enough knowledge of the law at that time to do what he did without anybody noticing. Now, not so much.

...Giuliani has been working with Trump for a long time.

Trump has had casino license problems for having mob ties. The probability of Giuliani not knowing about that at the relevant time is zero.

Giuliani aggressively went after the Italian mob in NYC at a time when the Russian mob was moving in.

I found it in a discount bin years ago and one of the chapters was about the murders that happened at the NYC CBS studios. Giuliani was the prosecutor, if I recall. I'll dig the book out but my recollection is that it was highly critical of Giuliani's behavior as the representative of the government.

He's always been a dirt-bag.

He cashes in from publicity. Whatever he does that raises his profile helps him sell his useless consultation services.
