I used to sometimes dread doing yet more of them, now I love it.

I was out with a friend on Tuesday looking at the lights around town, and I couldn't get Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy out of my head. She plays in the symphony and is extremely familiar with it, so I brought up the fact that virtually everyone knows that part of the Nutcracker and nothing else.

Every freelance Orchestra gig I do we gotta do SLEIGH RIDE. Freakin' SLEIGH RIDE. Diddlee dum diddlee dum diddlee dum dum dum..

Fortunately almost nobody rehearses it. 😂😂

According to her, they do it every single year. And every single year the director uses it for an encore, so it's not a surprise to anyone. But it's for the kids in the audience. While the orchestra plays, Santa comes into the audience and shakes the kids' hands.
