After five tumultuous years, the nations first criminal prosecution of Planned Parenthood came to an end Friday when prosecutors dropped the last of the charges against the abortion provider.
Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe and Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt jointly announced they were dismissing the last 32 charges against Planned Parenthood. A four-page statement detailed their reasons.
The decision ends an investigation started by Phill Kline, who began the probe as Kansas attorney general in 2003 and lodged a 107-count criminal complaint in 2007 after he did not win re-election and was appointed Johnson County district attorney.
Klines investigations of Planned Parenthood and the late Wichita abortion provider George Tiller, who was shot to death in 2009, snared him in an ethics complaint that could cost him the right to practice law in Kansas, although he now lives and teaches in Virginia.
This is a good day for women in Kansas, said Peter Brownlie, president of Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri.

(3,873 posts)My apologies if it were so:
Kline went to Liberty "U" after being disbarred in Kansas, but he got his education at Central Missouri State University (B.S.) (now: University of Central Missouri) and the University of Kansas (J.D.).

(51,666 posts)These freaks don't give a damn about facts or the law. They want to harrass women's healthcare providers out of business. PP needs to sue KS for wrongful, malicious prosecution.

(326 posts)this is only a stumbling block for them since it was dismissal not acquittal. They say it was lack of evidence due to files destroyed by a Democratic pro abortion governor. This same case probably won't be refiled but look for another one soon. For now score one for the correct side IMO.

(51 posts)should be billed for the extreme waste of time, & taxpayer dollars? How many REAL crimes have not been prosecuted because of this specious B.S.? Tort reform my ass. Prosecutors have waaaaaaay too much power in this country's two tier "justice" system. Now this frog just heads to Virginia to what?, "practice" law? You know, with all of this "practicing" law, you'd think they'd get it right, come big game time. Maybe the lawyers should be piss tested, for a change.

Planned Parenthood is NOT primarily an abortion provider. Wonder where the reporter came up with that characterization?
