Is there any pushback for the Gary Sinise for TIME MOTY thing?

This has been going around Facebook for a few days - mostly from Patty Heaton's tweet or something.

I want to say "rich white guy writes a check to Disneyland - yeah that's MOTY material..."

But - looks like Sinise does a lot of other stuff...

Is Sinse really a great guy? And I just can't stand him because he's a righty?

1. He does seem big on supporting Veteran's Charities ...

That's about all I can add.

Given he's a righty, though, there's a non-negative chance they're mostly fraudulent outfits.

2. I guess he's done a lot for veterans, but supports the party that inflicted so much

misery on them for years and still continues to through opposing veterans bills. A bit of cognitive dissonance, if you ask me. Lately, the best thing I can say about him is that he despises that orange thing currently infesting the White House and refused to support him in 2016.

3. I'm not sure why you think there should be pushback for something that didn't happen

They chose "The Guardians", not Sinise.

Cons can genuflect before the US Military all they want; Time won't reconsider their choice.

4. I suppose that's the best pushback of all!

This is going around Facebook as if TIME is still thinking about it...

Frankly - if Sinse doesn't like Trump - and does good stuff - shinning a light on that can't hurt.

And the Flag.
And Apple Pie.
And Disney.

That's how my Aunt will see it.

5. Person (Man) of the Year isn't some honorary award.

It's a title for the person (or people) who was the most significant newsmaker of the year.

For better or worse--as many have pointed out, Hitler was once MOY. So was Stalin (twice). And more recently, Putin.

Gary Sinise contributing towards some veterans charities is all fine and good, but that wasn't really any significant news story this year.

This year we saw numerous examples of journalists mocked, sanctioned, jailed and even murdered for doing their jobs. That's why Time went with who they did.

People still get confused over the designation year after year.

7. Sinise IS, by all accounts, a great guy.

Yes, he is a Republican. But I have friends who are Republicans who haven't lost their minds.

That having been said, there's a lot more behind the Time MOTY distinction than being a great guy. Hitler and Stalin were MOTY, and it wasn't for anything good.

That's a good right winger these days.

To be fair, I've heard the guy has tons of compassion and a real heart.
