Which loss made you feel the worst? Gillum, O'Rourke, or Abrams?

For me, it was Stacy Abrams because of the incredible overt cheating that brought her down.

O'Rourke lost in Texas.

Gillum lost to a slime ball but, Florida.

Abrams actually WON were it not for the overt cheating and vote stealing on the part of a criminal by the name of Brian Kemp.

What I love about her is that she is courageous, honest, and never condescending. She has a lovely smile and manners but she can spit fire when defending the rights of the people.

It's a special quality and I don't think that she "just happens to be a black woman" who possesses these traits.

If she hadn't had all the experiences in life that she has had she would not as much gravitas as she does.

And set the mood for the democratic nomination race even if he doesn't win this time. But if he does win the nomination this time great! I think he has that much to teach. KKKemp used his power to purge and disenfranchise over 1 million voters in Georgia. And he got away with it. It really sucks. And on top of that, we had a runoff on 12/4/18 for Secretary of State... but I guess that one was either stolen or people didn't show up like last time. So another GOP criminal will be overseeing our elections in 2020.

Second place is Gillum because when you looked at the 2 guys on stage at the debates, Desantis looked unfit. Like a drug addict. He had no real plan for Florida and only won because he's white.

I took those two elections personally because going in to the election, they both had the lead. Then somehow it flipped, likely due to shenanigans. We always knew O'Rourke was an uphill battle.

Based on the pure odiousness of those they were facing.

Or the senate races. Taking the senate collectively, regardless of which specific dems won it, would have been a true upset. Of those, the specific upset I wanted was Texas. Beto is Beto, but I wanted the symbolism of the Texas win. It was a blue election. But a Democratic senator from Texas would have truly scared the Right, where what happened was more or less expected and arguably still within range of their being able to steal the next election.

I like Abrams better and am heartsick about the continued disenfranchising of African Americans.
But Florida keeps stealing elections and 18 years of republican rule have destroyed integrity of state that I grew up in.
It had GOOD government in the 60s, 70s, 80s — Reuben Askew, Lawton Chiles, Bob Graham — and good laws protecting Everglades, honest transparent government.
I haven’t trusted the election machinery there since the negative 17,000 vote “glitch” in 2000.

Of course, all of the losses you mentioned were painful. I will add Phil Bredesen to my list, as he was a good governor when I lived in Tennessee years ago and I really did not want that racist scumbag to win...but she did, because that state is still red as hell.

The political scene in GA will be dealing with her for a very long time...until it turns blue.

Basically because Abrams had no chance when she was running against the very man who was in charge of overseeing the election. It was clear to me from the start that she would never take office, even if she got 60% of the vote. Beto had a real chance, I thought. Not just because it was a Texas election, but also because Cruz disgusts so many Texans. But there are still too many in Texas who just vote "R" whether it's a person or an armadillo. But Beto would have spoken out like Al Franken on the Senate floor, and THAT is something I miss, no matter what state the Senator is from.

In my precinct there were a bunch of Cruz people. And I live in San Antonio. I can't imagine rural areas.
Cruz is repulsive to us, but not to them.

went for Beto

The outlying areas not so much

A statewide Democrat has not won my precinct since I moved here in 1994. I live in the city limits.

The only Democrats that win this precinct are the ones that are either unopposed or opposed by Libertarians. Here are the totals for my state rep:
1126 (D) 533 (L) (under votes) 477

Here is an unopposed judge:
1221 (D) (under votes) 915

They would rather not vote than vote for a Democrat!!!

Here is Cruz vs Beto:

91. Pragmatically, it was Gillum. It'd really help if FL could be a reliable Democratic state.

Make no mistake, a governorship is a valuable asset during national elections, with a team in place, exceeding fundraising goals, campaigning, etc. A Democratic Florida could oversee (and correct) issues such as ballot design (a serious problem in FL), and also maintain oversight re the collection/tabulation of ballots.

And because his opponent made slimy remarks against him and against AOC.

94. O'Rourke, and here's why

I'm sad that any of them lost. Each was running against a slimeball who no sane person would vote for. However, Gillum was running in Florida, which has shown in the past that it can't run a fair election when there's a chance a Democrat might win. Abrams was running in a state with a Secretary of State who was actively trying to keep people from voting for her. O'Rourke was running in Texas, a state I had higher hopes for. Texas does have voter id laws IIRC, but its voting process didn't seem as corrupt as Florida's or Georgia's. O'Rourke's loss was due to his fellow Texans deciding that they were happy keeping that smirking waste of space in the US Senate.

O'Rourke's loss also affected me more directly. Who governs Georgia or Florida doesn't have much impact on me directly (until the rest of the country has to bail them out because of their gross incompetence). Having Cruz in the US Senate does affect me directly because he has a vote in who gets confirmed to cabinet and judicial positions.

Because Florida is (supposed) to be a purple state yet they elected a far right SOB like DeSantis as well as Scott for the senate....Scott barely won his governor races in GOP wave years and pulled another rabbit out of the hat to beat Nelson....

It's extremely frustrating to see Florida keep electing these people...And, of yeah, Dump won there in 2016 as well...

I live in Broward County, FL. I was all in on this election. I truly thought this time was different; that we were going to win; that there was enough of us to drown them out.

This was crushing. I don’t think I ever felt more defeated.

I think by a 65-35 margin, to restore former felons voting rights....

But i bet an Acura to an apple that the incoming governor DeShithead tries to stall or obstruct this.....Florida where most elections are 51-49%, this ballot measure passed with such a sweeping margin that it shows that many Republican voters supported this to...

I'm in San Antonio and it was a heartbreaker to not send Grandpa Munster packing. But we have a wonderful mayor, Ron Nirenberg, who I've met, and we kicked that ridiculous religious freakazoid DINO Ivy Taylor to the curb.

If only San Antonio and Austin had been allowed to vote in the Texas senate race, we'd have O'Rourke today.
