He was appointed three times by three different presidents.
Appointed to Superior Court in DC by Reagan in '84.
DC Court of Appeals by George HW Bush in '92.
Then to the Federal Bench by Bill Clinton in '94.
He's also the guy that ordered the Justice Department to "turn that plane around" when a mother and her child were separated. The mother was put on a plane out of the country. He threatened to hold Jeff Sessions in contempt of court himself over the case.
I want this guy on my side.

(31,112 posts)Let's enjoy that while we can, courts are being packed with judges as corrupt and dishonest as gorsuch, thomas and kavanaugh and for that matter even worse, if you can imagine that.
That piece of shit in TX appointed by rump who just decided that since the congress couldnt make ACA illegal, he would. THAT is who will occupy most of our courts for the next 30 years, because you know, both candidates are the same, emails, speeches.

(22,582 posts)The Big Lie swallowed by far too many on the Left that they took to give them cover either to not vote or to vote for a 3rd party candidate.
Who knows how many, many thousands of Republicans who didn't like Trump but voted for him anyways because the appointments of judges on every level was important them. Well, even after just a couple of years they've got what they wanted from their vote.
It's too bad that we didn't have more on the Left who would have felt the same and grasped that concept and voted for Hillary.

(5,609 posts)Judge Sullivan, we could use a few thousand more judges like you in this country.
We appreciate you greatly.

(1,288 posts)The very somber guest -- can't remember his name, but his credentials are impeccable -- said he felt the judge overstepped, that he inserted himself into the trial, acted a bit like a prosecutor. He believes this could actually be grounds for the request of a new judge, but this is highly, HIGHly, unlikely to happen for a variety of reasons.
I love this guy, Emmet Sullivan and respect his commitment to the truth and accountability.

(65,076 posts)A another guy said something similar on Cuomo.
Probably why the judge toned down the rhetoric later.
And while all that may be true about the decorum, neither said the judge was wrong in objective measure.

(1,288 posts)I really want him to continue as Flynn's judge so I hope he keeps it in check.

(21,849 posts)This is why you seldom see a motion to recuse in federal court. The motion is in effect asking the judge to find that he himself is biased and should remove himself from the case. How many judges would admit that they are biased? You would then be stuck in front of this same judge for the rest of the case and would wonder whether the motion really ticked him off and will affect your case.

(2,351 posts)based on a biased judge? I guess they would have to back out of the agreement first, then get a judgment/resentence from Judge Sullivan, then appeal?

(282 posts)It wasn't during a "trial".
During Dr. Nassar-Olympics sentencing the judge ran with her personal feelings towards him.
It's a judges right during sentencing to express themselves about the defendant's actions and it can work either way, for or against them.

(6,254 posts)administration. Its obvious from his comments that Sullivan is a well informed judge. Unlike the judge in Texas who ruled on Obamacare, Sullivans outrage at Flynn and by association Trump was obvious. There has to be a moment when somebody says something that breaks this spell that has taken hold of so many people. Like I and many others have said, until we deal with our Fox problem the country will remain divided. Fox gives Trump cover and protects him. Trump would be gone within weeks should Fox abandon him. The fastest way to get rid of Trump is to target Fox, Hannity, Carlson etc.

(9,090 posts)and it will be the same for all judges who oppose trump along the way to getting him out
limbaugh can start it and it will get repeated on 1000 radio stations until the teabag dittoheads start sending threats. the russians will amplify the same with soc media
or the kremlin has designed something to threatena nd intimidate him and it will end up in limbaugh's material and the trolls will amplify it
maybe something ffrom sullivans past, maybe a ruling or event that can be distorted and exaggerated, or make uop something that can't be refuted because dems won't know about because they don't listen to talk radio, or it may be an attack on a relative, etc
all that unchallenged repetition has worked great for 30 years and a lot of it, on more than 260 limbaugh stations, will be endorsed by 88 universities, just like the attacks on mueller, clinton, obama, deep state, etc.
