Judge Jeanine Pirro is officially the laughing stock of the planet

http://nymag.com/intelligencer/2018/12/michael-flynns-judge-destroys-trumps-conspiracy-theory.html

The precise extent of Flynn’s crimes remains largely redacted. But the response of the judge, Emmet G. Sullivan, gives some indication of their severity. Sullivan lectured Flynn, “Arguably you sold your country out … I’m not hiding my disgust, my disdain for this criminal offense.” He mused that Flynn may have committed treason, before later acknowledging that treason only applies to assisting foreign enemies that are in a state of war with the United States (which Russia and Turkey were not.)

What makes this turn of events so devastating is that conservatives have held out Sullivan as the judicial hero who would vindicate their theories. Fox News legal pundit Jeanine Pirro called him “a jurist unafraid of the swamp, a judge who has a track record of calling out prosecutorial misconduct, a man who does not tolerate injustice or abuse of power.” Wall Street Journal columnist Kimberley Strassel praised Sullivan as “a judge who is wise to the tricks of prosecutors and investigators … His reputation is for being no-nonsense, a straight shooter, an advocate of government transparency.”

Even though the judge mellowed his statements after he returned to the bench, his words are still hanging out there--you sold your country out, was treason considered, I'm not hiding my disgust, my disdain--because they echo what many of us have said and/or thought. It's clear that there's no remorse on Flynn's part, only regret that he was caught and forced out into the open. Having his lawyers take another swipe at the FBI, pretend that he was 'tricked' into coughing up information indicates he's still spouting Trumpski's propaganda and appealing to MAGA base.

I share the judge's disgust.

shouldn't have to be told to tell the truth to anyone. His only reason to lie would be to cover something up, and that's exactly what he did. FOX lives in an alternate reality where truth and facts can gain no purchase. The Judge today made him back down and admit he intentionally lied to the FBI and that there was no duress involved with him doing so. Flynn is a liar and a criminal. You can see why Trump picked him. He picks "all the best people".

It would mean that all differing definitions, metrics and expectations of any given scenario are valid, until the situation plays out. And even then, there are no faulty ideas involved, just unexpected results.

Unfortunately, this reasoning doesn’t allow for a flat-out repudiation of any inherently toxic or destructive beliefs: racism, xenophobia, religious fanaticism, right-wing dictatorships, etc., because they’re simply a particular set of definitions, metrics and expectations.

When you look at how she said the judge would act, she is pretty much spot-on.

She said that he is "a jurist unafraid of the swamp, a judge who has a track record of calling out prosecutorial misconduct, a man who does not tolerate injustice or abuse of power."

"unafraid of the swamp" ==> Unafraid of Trump

"track record of calling out prosecutorial misconduct" ==> A good indicator he thought there was no such misconduct

"does not tolerate injustice or abuse of power" ==> He certainly didn't tolerate Flynn's abuse of power or injustice

Her expectations and definitions of what things like "the swamp" and "abuse of power" meant were way off, but her thought of how the judge would respond to those things was correct.

VOX

(22,976 posts)
93. In my book, that makes her delusional.
Wed Dec 19, 2018, 04:42 PM
Dec 2018

Because, like most Trumpists (if not all) her beliefs and expectations were/are completely out of line with what occurs in objective, measurable reality.

Her delusional hubris enabled her (incorrect) prognostication on how the judge was going to go easy on Flynn. She actually thought that she had this in the bag. Oops.

Say that Sean Hannity (sorry) claims, “Trump will go down as a larger-than-life president who shook up the status quo. He is one of a kind, and Americans will never forget him.”

Using the aforementioned reasoning, semantically, every word in that statement is true, if only by virtue of its unspecified wording. But we know that he’s full of poop, and is either delusional or just plain lying, because we know Sean Hannity.

Don’t worry, I’m not on some quest here, just knocking around some ideas. I appreciate your point of view. Thanks, whopis01. And that IS true!

I'm not on any quest either - I just find it kind of fascinating, if futile, to try to figure out what the thought process is with someone like her.

I know I am putting way too much thought into this. I am sure that if she had known how the judge would react ahead of time, she would have been talking him down and telling people what a bad judge he is and how he shouldn't be overseeing this case. I am sure the only reason she was praising him was because she thought the outcome was going to go the other way.

Either way - I just found it entertaining that she could (seemingly) accurately describe the judge, but so horribly fail to predict what his action would be.

I can understand someone getting the basic facts wrong, then coming to an incorrect conclusion. You can be mistaken about something, but still be logical. However, to get the basic facts correct, and then come to an incorrect conclusion shows a complete lack of logic.

So - I don't disagree with anything you have said. She is delusional. I just find some twisted entertainment in that.

Thank you too!

Just ask her husband. Oh, I think she may have had a hand in violating tax laws too, but hey, who among us hasn't violated a criminal statute or two? In case you weren't aware of her background...

Federal Jury Convicts Pirro On All Tax-Fraud Charges

A federal jury today convicted Albert J. Pirro Jr., the influential Republican businessman and husband of Jeanine F. Pirro, the Westchester County district attorney, of conspiracy and tax evasion, imperiling his business career and perhaps her political one.

For Mr. Pirro, 53, the verdict, if upheld, could derail his career as Westchester's most powerful real estate development lawyer and one of New York State's most prodigious Republican fund-raisers.

For Mrs. Pirro, 49, who could have been a strong contender for the Republican nomination for the United States Senate this year were it not for her husband's legal woes, the verdict jeopardizes her immediate prospects for higher office. And for Anthony G. Pirro, Albert Pirro's brother and accountant, who was also convicted today on similar charges, the result transforms an anonymous middle-class life into one inextricably linked to a messy public scandal.

Two more mysteries remain. The first is just what crimes by Flynn Mueller’s prosecutors found. The second, even larger, is what Flynn gave them on Trump. If his offenses were as serious as Sullivan indicated, and Mueller still suggested he skip prison, it stands to reason that the evidence he turned over concerning other figures is devastating.

Flynn was not set up. He was charged for committing serious crimes. And he is probably going to escape prison because the crimes committed by the people he worked with and for are even more serious.
