Tis the season for package thieves

There have been some posts of clever solutions to the package thief problem, some quite ingenious. I wonder though, what happens to most of the stolen merchandise. Some of it is probably kept but some of it may be turned for profit. I know of a young man who lived off the profits of stealing packages and whatever else he could get his hands on. He and his girlfriend sold the goods on Ebay.

Could this be a widespread problem? Internet sites seem to be an easy place to unload stolen merchandise. Does anyone know if the big name sites try to screen for this?
