Hold on. I just heard that Paul Ryan said his mother 'depends' on Medicare??

I know she's 78, and I can understand she USES her Medicare benefits, but I refuse to believe she has to DEPEND on Medicare. I mean, isn't his family pretty wealthy and can afford pretty damn good insurance? So, he's using his own mother as a shill!?!?!?!?

Or am I way off base on this.

That's how evil he is. He'd sell her into slavery before he'd admit that Medicare is a cost-effective program that saves seniors (and disabled folk) from dying from disease.

It's to cut Medicare expenses so that money can be given to the 1%. It's not about anything else. As soon as we all get it his plan will be exposed for what it is. President Obama is saying this. Ryan's plan is not to save money. It's to redistribute that money upwards. This is what makes him so monstrous.

just as she is entitled to do. This is actually a good thing for Paul Ryan as well as his mother, because if she becomes seriously ill and needs a lot of very expensive medical care for many years - as so often happens to elderly people - Medicare will pick up the tab for most of it, leaving even more money in her estate for him to inherit.

Of course, the Ryan plan would not affect people who are already over 55, so neither Paul nor Ma need to worry. So Medicare as it currently exists is a good thing for the 1%, not just us peons. Wonder if they've thought of that angle?

And, don't get me wrong. I have no issue with people using their Medicare benefit, but maybe it's the old hippie in me, because I only use what I need. If I was so weathy I could afford to buy private insurance, I'd probably opt out of Medicare. Same with SS benefits. Why use what you don't need, when that money can go to those who actually NEED it???

Besides, people my age and upwards supposedly don't have to worry. Evidently he thinks it's OK with us if slightly younger people get cut off as long as we get ours.

During his speech at the sprawling retirement community northwest of Orlando, Ryan said his mother, Betty Douglas, has depended on the government program for more than 10 years. It was promised to her and millions of today's seniors, and it won't go away for now.

Think both of your conclusions are correct.

The family was well off when his father died when he was a teenager, too, but nobody's libertarian principles kept teenaged Ryan from drawing social security either. He's stated he didn't use it, but banked it for college. With the family money, there's no way he was dependent on that small amount in order to go to school.

I truly don't begrudge people from using those benefits but taking it and then trying to deny it to people with real need is so hypocritical.

Yes, rich people are SUPPOSED to use government's money. That's why Mitt says he wouldn't be qualified to be president if he paid a nickel more than required. The government is supposed to get the difference from the peons.

deceased husband's. If the benefits start at an earlier age, they are reduced a fraction of a percent for each month before full retirement age.

If the survivor has their own SS, they can switch to that between ages 62 and 70, if those benefits would be more.

They will however pay for catheters and other external urinary collection devices for patients who have permanent urinary incontinence or permanent urinary retention.

Some States will provide adult diapers, but for some of us who've had loved ones in a nursing home who's on Medicare, it's one of the many expenses family needs to cover.
