92 years ago today, the Nineteenth Amendment was ratified, guaranteeing women the right to vote.

August 18th, 1920.

Thank You Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Stanton for introducing it in 1878. I can't believe it took that long to ratify.

I think I'll have a glass of wine in their honor, and ladies of the United States; yours as well.

There's still a long way to go, but today should be about the inspiration it took to get here.

My grandmother was 14 when the 19th Amendment was ratified. She always talked about how thrilled she was when it passed because she knew she would be able to vote when she turned 21.

One of my earliest memories is going w/ her when she voted. The polling place had a kid sized booth complete w/ the curtain. I got to go in, close the curtain and 'vote'

She marched for suffrage in Kansas. My father was a baby in a stroller and then a 3-4 year old walking with her. Up until the 1980s older members of the family talked about what a radical she was, and not with kindness or admiration.

She died around the time I was born so I didn't know her but I love her.

That is what they want.

Jesse Lee Peterson, the controversial conservative preacher and regular guest of Sean Hannity, said in a recent video it was a mistake to allow women the right to vote.

In a video uploaded in March but publicized this Monday by Raw Story, Peterson, who runs an organization calling for Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny (BOND), said that allowing women to vote puts the United States "on a pathway to destruction."

ANN COULTER: If we took away women's right to vote, we'd never have to worry about another Democrat president.

Can't remember where I read that. Interesting little factoid, though.

I don't know if wine's all that appropriate, as these women were instrumental in passing the Volstead act, i.e. Prohibition, but I'll join you:
