NRDC: Rep. Castor an Outstanding Leader for New House Climate Panel

WASHINGTON (Dec.20, 2018) – According to news reports today, the House Democratic leadership has asked longtime environmental leader Rep. Kathy Castor (D-Fla.) to chair a new select committee on climate change in the next Congress.

John Bowman, Senior Director for Federal Affairs at the Natural Resources Defense Council, made this comment:

"Rep. Kathy Castor is an outstanding choice to help lead the House’s renewed focus on climate change. As a longtime environmental champion, few are better suited to help shine a bright light on the threats Americans face from the climate crisis and advance the solutions we urgently need.

“We look forward to working with her, and other congressional leaders, on measures that slow, stop and reverse dangerous climate change, and create economic prosperity for our future.”

Rep Kathy Castor, District 14, in Florida!

I remember reading about her Mom, Betty Castor, years ago.

She narrowly lost to mel Martinez for Senator in 2004. We wanted her to win so badly!

People are demanding action and don't understand why we're not leading the world on climate change innovation."

Democratic President Lyndon Johnson DID lead the world in 1965 when he issued the first official call by Democrats to recognize and stop global warming, followed later by a second call by President Carter. Republicans and their energy business funders listened and went to war against action.

The Democrat's new house speaker Nancy Pelosi had very strong views on the need to combat climate change and set up a select committee for that purpose. It's true that it didn't accomplish much in the face of intense opposition from the right and widespread apathy among voters on the left, before Republicans dissolved it.

But this is now, finally a compelling issue politically because it's a different world climatically. Apathy is fast being replaced by anxiety and belief, including those newly aware and newly noisy believers among the radical left, and of course the kids who think they're the first generation to know something.

Well, it's true that we earlier ones let it get to this point, so yell away, kids! Do some good. Throw the roast beef at mom and empty the mashed potatoes over dad's head. Whatever it takes to get their attention. Just don't give aid and comfort to the Republicans and their energy industry rulers by attacking new action by the Democratic Party.

through wall building hadn't become issues of faith in a secular partisan religion.

There are so many good reasons not to try to enshrine white supremacy with a hateful, mostly symbolic "wall," but environmental issues are way up there.
