CNN's Berman: GOP Staffer Told Me Mattis Departure 'Makes Impeachment More Likely'

https://www.mediaite.com/tv/cnns-berman-gop-staffer-told-me-mattis-departure-makes-impeachment-more-likely/

CNN’s John Berman says he has spoken to people in the GOP who think President Trump‘s impeachment is more likely now that James Mattis is leaving the White House.

The Defense Secretary’s departure sent shockwaves throughout the political world on Thursday, especially since his resignation letter was a thorough rebuke of Trump’s approach to military and foreign policy. As CNN’s New Day examined the connotations of these developments, Berman said Mitch McConnell basically said “holy crap” when the Senate Majority Leader announced his distress over Mattis’ leave-taking.

“I have to say what the political ramifications are,” Berman said. “I heard from a Republican staffer on the Hill who said this makes impeachment more likely. I don’t need to tie this into the Russian investigation right now…but the ripple effects of this are that Republicans are shaken and their support for the president is shaken and that might be an underestimate.”

And secretly, many of them relish this shift to authoritarianism.

but impeachment does not remove a president from office (just ask Bill Clinton) without conviction by the Senate, and that's not going to happen.

But if or when Trump is impeached and not convicted by the Senate, be prepared to hear him shout and tweet over and over about how he was found innocent, that it was all fake news, and a Liberal/media conspiracy.

I will not tolerate any form of non-prosecution.
The GOP can drown in their own fecal swamp.

What the GOP controlled Senate does about this last minute shutdown threat for Trump's wall will pretty much tell you if any Republicans remain loyal to this country.

the republicans have surprised even me with their total abandonment of the constitution, their oaths of office the rule of law. but now, maybe enough of them will start reading the writing on the wall to convict and rid the country of this scourge.

i believe impeachment must be brought even if the votes aren't there, because it's too much. too much crime, too much damage, too much corruption. Democrats have a moral obligation to try. It is so far beyond being a political consideration. Our democracy is in deep trouble.
