that's a tap-in putt. it only seems like a major victory because he came so close to botching something that should have been a cakewalk.

Trump has crippled the CFPB, obliterated the EPA, decimated the Department of Education, changed reproductive health subsidies, cut funding for global family planning, alienated Canada, sided with the Saudi Prince on the killing of a US journalist resident, pulled out from the Paris Climate agreement, not sanctioned Russia and has proposed lifting sanctions, successfully manipulated Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell, removed LGBTQ protections, opened up our previously protected public lands and waters to fossil fuel exploration, had part of his Muslim ban okayed by the court (?), etc.

Yes. Elections have consequences. Trump has had some tremendous fuck ups, but has also successfully damaged this country and our standing in the world. He 'deserves' credit for that.

but to me, for a politician to get a "win" in my book, it needs to be something that wasn't a foregone conclusion.

obamacare was a huge win for obama, he got something done that other presidents tried to do and failed, and overcame entrenched opposition and logistic challenges to get it into law.

donnie's tax cut or right-wing court appointments? foregone conclusion from the day we found out he had somehow won the election.

pretty much everything he's done has been a foregone conclusion, something that any other republican president could have easily done given a republican congress. the only things he's really done differently is debase politics, debase the office, debase the republican party, and launch a trade war.
