(73 posts)Do the fed emps who took vacation time over the holiday get to end up keeping that time to use later or do they still get charged? If a shutdown happens, Congress ends up agreeing to pay everyone for the time missed. Pretty good deal if you ask me. Dont have to work then still get payed as though you did.

(15,810 posts)Mortgage payments still need to be made. So do car payments, utility bills, etc.
Sadly most Americans are a paycheck or two away from disaster. We could lecture folks all day long on prepping for situations like this, but thatd be us speaking from a position of privilege. So lets not.

(779 posts)I was furloughed in the 2013 shutdown, 2 weeks after starting a new federal job. Paychecks were delayed. It's very disruptive. Luckily I had a wad of cash in savings, and I had to dip into it a bit. Not everyone is in as good a situation. And the essential employees have to keep working, but the paychecks stop. In that brief Trump shutdown more recently, a coworker traveling to a conference was ordered to immediately return on the next flight. A huge waste of his time and the government's money! Every time a shutdown threatens, agencies have to make contingency plans, when they could be doing something more productive for the taxpayer. Shutdowns are incredibly wasteful.

I never knew I could detest one person so much, but it took a Trump to do it.

Save money and do away with the lock. We can just weld up a cage around him.
I volunteer to do some of the welding. (Wouldn't want to be a hog about it; let others get in on the sparks).

(50,559 posts)The Trumps need fresh air and sunshine. Lets build a pleasant four-bedroom house inside of a very secure fence. They can walk outside and look around, and itll be nice. They just cant ever get out. Therell be a room for Don and his agent handler, one for Don-Don and his wife, one for Eric and his wife, and one for Jarvanka.
Of course, the fact were going to build it on one of Trumps golf courses, which will be turned into public links, MIGHT be a bit unkind. Well call it a hazard: if your ball lands inside Trumps prison, deduct five strokes from your score. If someone in there throws it back, deduct six strokes and request a free replacement ball from the beer cart next time it comes by.
