Can we be serious? Can we be rational? About "The Wall"?

I am sitting here listening to one of many panel discussions on the TEEVEE machine and the opinionators are wondering if there is "some sort of compromise" that might "let both sides claim a win" and end the shutdown of about a fourth of our government. There is speculation that, while the Democrats now have the stronger position, if Trump "digs in his heels" and the shutdown goes into February, it will then be their responsibility to "concede something" that will get the government going again".

There is a word for this: BULLSHIT!

The very idea of this wall, which began as an unplanned, unscripted, "just pulled this outta my ass" remark at one on Trump's campaign rallies, is patently stupid; ridiculous; embarrassingly simplistic. AND---we were "promised" that "MEXICO WILL PAY FOR THE WALL!"

We should not even engage in discussion with these GOP sycophants about "funding" for the damned wall. "Talk to Mexico" should be our only response to Trump's ridiculous demands. Any money we agree to approve should be for "border security". If he chooses to waste it building a few thousand yards of "slats" instead of hiring more personnel and improving electronic and satellite capabilities, let him own that and try selling it to the voters.

NO MONEY for "the wall". PERIOD, damn it!

staff where people seeking to come across the border for asylums can be quickly processed. We should have more look outs all along the border, like fire towers where agents can watch the border and assist people who are in trouble trying to get in. We should put out a lot more water stations and hire a lot more agents. We should fine any business, person or company that hires anyone without a green card. A big fine. The wall should be an investment in people, jobs and humanity, not fucking wire and beams.

It is relevant in that circumstance.

I think he wants the Treasury to pay back his debt to Deripaska, (aluminum king, sanctions just lifted, owner of Manafort) for a past debt.

No money for Russian oligarchs!

Those Repukes in Congress know this Wall is never gonna happen. What cowards they are!

It's all deflection while they look for some way to blame it on the Democrats.

Trump and his Republicans are playing to irrationality. The best we can get out of this latest bullshit is a draw if we don't let Trump get his wall. Yes, the wall is bullshit. We should make him and his Republicans eat the meal they are ordering.

Scorn from our base and a waste of billions of dollars added to the debt. The majority of the ranchers and land owners along the border don't want a wall.

45% of illegal immigrants overstay their visas.

The wall is kind of a harmless way to let Republicans fail. The ranchers and land owners, mostly Republicans, will drag the wall down. It will never be built. The lack of a wall isn't doing anything to allow illegal immigrants in. You're right, 45% (perhaps more now) of illegal immigration is visa overstays and other forms of legal entry overstays.

The lack of a wall is letting Republicans prey on the pro-wall folks' irrationality. They don't see (despite its obviousness) that a wall is a crazy, dumb, expensive, guaranteed-to-fail idea. But this is a democracy. We have to respect their votes if not their opinion on the crazy wall.

It's not like we don't have hundreds of billions of dollars being wasted on other things such as irrational levels of defense spending. A lot of what we spend goes to foolishness. The upside is that all of this waste goes to pay wages that buy groceries.

Yes, you are right. Our base needs something like DACA to placate them if we give Trump and his Republicans enough rope to hang themselves by giving them a wall. That's why I would like to see DACA make its way into the equation.

Is fucking ridiculous. Like, it's making reality harder to do deal with, because it's just so utterly stupid and preposterous.

It would be like if The Shitgibbon nominated Donald Duck, the actual Disney character as drawn by Carl Barks, to be Secretary of Defense. Then we spent four weeks debating whether or not The Constitution prohibits a cartoon character from holding a cabinet position, and Fox News talked about how his experience in the Navy (he wears a sailor suit) might prove beneficial to the job. Rachel Maddow would spend hours talking about how Donald Duck actually has NO provable military experience, and that it is crucial to have someone who is at least competent in the job. Sean Hannity would point to Donald's religious faith, lack of scandal, and devotion to his family.

At no point would any media figure point out what is blatantly obvious: having Donald Duck as Secretary Defense is a flat-out terrible idea, because Donald Duck does not exist.

I think the fact that we are even in conflict over funding for this stupid-ass idea is just bizarre. Democrats need to focus on what a foolish, archaic, pointless idea the wall is in the first place. It's not about funding. It's about the fact that the whole idea about building a wall is totally idiotic in the first place.

Did you ever see the video someone did with a plane or helicopter? They shot photos of the entire length of the southern border and sped up the video to condense the time. There are many many places where a fucking wall can't be built.

I tell people that a wall is a good idea if we were living in the 1st century.

Or of a wannabe dictator. They can’t get the votes and they ask “will Democrats ever be prepared to compromise?”

Democratic presidents can’t get the votes? They say “he failed to get the votes”

Republican President can’t get the votes? They say “will democrats ever compromise?”

when they say it is a frivolous and wasteful idea that basically won't work and is nothing more than a sop to Trump's ego. Why bother? We might as well build a bunch of billboards along the border with "Trump doesn't want you to enter" painted on them. It would be about as effective.

China had walls and the Mongols over ran them.

Rome had walls and the barbarians still swamped them.

Constantinople had walls and the Turks took them out.

If we build a "wall" the only things that get hurt are the wild animals who have their habitats and migration routes disrupted, but Repubs don't give a shit about that anyway.

I do not understand why it is not abundantly clear to everyone by now that Trump cannot compromise. He must always "win."

This latest debacle is because he was actually staying out of things he didn't understand or need to be a part of until Rush, FOX & Fucks and others yanked his chain. They tweaked his ego and BOOM! here we are.

Trump sees every situation as a "win" or a "lose." He doesn't see compromise as a "win," he sees it as a "lose."

If the so-called leaders of the GOP could just keep him out of everything they could compromise and, maybe, get something done. As long as Trump pays more attention to Rush, Fox & Fucks and Hannity there is no chance for rational governing.

All of those entities thrive on discord and drama. If they don't have drama to show on air and post online they don't make money. It's always, always, about the money.
