The lack of a wall isn't doing anything to allow illegal immigrants in. You're right, 45% (perhaps more now) of illegal immigration is visa overstays and other forms of legal entry overstays.

The lack of a wall is letting Republicans prey on the pro-wall folks' irrationality. They don't see (despite its obviousness) that a wall is a crazy, dumb, expensive, guaranteed-to-fail idea. But this is a democracy. We have to respect their votes if not their opinion on the crazy wall.
