I'm not talking about powers in the Constitution, I'm talking about unofficial, de facto powers. There is nothing in the Constitution which declares the President is a symbol of the country and the people (Esp. when more of those people vote for the other candidate), we do that by ourselves.

This whole "respect for the office" thing is something we do not have to actually do. I respect myself way more than I respect this office, if this office and the institutions which tell us to respect it had any self-respect and respect for it, then Trump never would have became president.

though I think that it went out with Clinton and with Obama elections.

I cringe every time I see him holding a piece of paper half covered with a signature that only someone who lacks self respect can use.
