Trump voters just want a "win"...

They don't really care if a "wall" works or how much it costs or how stupid it sounds. They just want a win.

They know Trump promised to shut down the government if he and they did not get their way. They are willing to play along with "blaming the Democrats", even though they know whose fault it is. It's nothing more than politics. It doesn't matter if it affects the lives of their fellow citizens. They don't care.

They understand that building a "wall" is a stupid and very expensive idea. But they need it for a win. They think nobody else knows how stupid it is. They think no one else sees that their emperor has no clothes.

To say that Trumpists lack the capacity for nuance and viewing the larger picture is insufficient.

They are proud of being ignorant, of wearing that "school of hard knocks" virtual badge. They are defiant in their stupidity. They'd LOVE to live under a full-time, full-on fascist dictator.

Have them get the Deal Maker on the phone and tell him to get right on it.

Otherwise, it's like moving the goalposts in 70 yards after the opening kickoff. It certainly isn't a "win".

You need a gimmick quote to bring this premise down

Then Mara Liasson was on. Granted some of this comes from the White House but she made two interesting points:
1. The administration doesn't think Trump will suffer any politic fallout from the shutdown.
and then this...
2. For his base the wall is is vital and they take it very literally. According to her sources in the White House/Trumpians they don't think he can get re-elected if he doesn't get the wall.
