The former Boeing executive has no military experience, no previous government experience and little experience with foreign policy.

(1,990 posts)The Palmer Report (https://www.palmerreport.com/analysis/russian-puppet-secretary-defense-exposed/14911/) has a story titled "Exposed: Donald Trumps new Acting Secretary of Defense is a Russian puppet". It in turn links to the Washington Post for some of its information.
You may not like Palmer Report, but this story should be checked out.

(115,835 posts)Since he was just appointed yesterday, obviously the Senate hasn't been able to confirm him, and maybe they won't have to since they've already confirmed him as deputy.

(2,395 posts)He's acting secretary and hasn't been confirmed to the position of Sec. of Defense.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,835 posts)As long as he is only the acting secretary he won't need it. Whoever is permanently chosen will.

(2,395 posts)I believe MiniMe was asking if he was only acting Secretary and hadn't been confirmed to the job. That was what I was responding to.

(493 posts)The only thing we can find in Shanahans record that would point why Trump chose him? His stated views on how the United States should essentially let Russia have Ukraine.
he was grilled by John McCain over his apparent desire to appease Vladimir Putin when it came to Ukraine. At one point, according to the Washington Post, an exasperated McCain said to Shanahan, Have you not been aware of the thousands of people that have been killed by Vladimir Putin?

(15,290 posts)Worked at Boeing, so he's familiar with gov't contracts and dealing with the military. I'd say he's the prototypical product of the military-industrial complex. At DoD there is a constant revolving door of civilian defense contractor execs to DoD and back and retired military to defense contractors.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,835 posts)of someone who might have been good at his original profession but knows little about the position to which Trump appointed him - like Tillerson and Ben Carson. They get appointed because Trump thinks businessmen are good at everything (or black neurosurgeons know everything about urban housing because they're black), or because they said nice things about Trump on TV.

(18,672 posts)Shit is going to hit the fan fairly quickly if this keeps up. Trump has pretty much decimated our government and its ability to respond in a crisis. Meanwhile, the GOP are distracted by their behind the scenes money deals.
