London police: Damaged drone discovered near airport

BY EMILY BIRNBAUM - 12/23/18 04:31 PM EST

The London police on Sunday announced that a damaged drone has been discovered near the city's Gatwick airport, which was forced to shut down last week Wednesday over nearby drone sightings.

Detective Chief Superintendent Jason Tingley told Sky News that the drone was discovered near the airport's perimeter.

"Obviously we will be doing everything we can with regards to forensically examining that drone and that is something that is being fast-tracked and expedited," Tingley told CNN.

Two people were reportedly released earlier in the day after being arrested in connection with the drones.

Delays due to this incident should reimburse every individual, company and government for the costs and inconsistencies that ensued. If such leaves them penniless for the rest of their lives, so be it.

And these cretins need to be made an example of--preferably with long prison sentences if British law allows.

And unforgiving.

If everybody got their pound of flesh, we'd all have been skeletonized long ago.

as well. I am no fan of a prison term, reimbursement to me seems to be much more justified and more equitable.

We seem to live in an age where new technologies are developed and released before their impacts are evaluated. Then society has to play catch-up. Consider that a drone costing a couple of hundred dollars may have shut down an international airport with the resulting costs in the millions of dollars and tens of thousands of hours lost for all of the people impacted by the drone flights.

Drones are just the latest example. Facebook is another big development that has become fundamentally dangerous.

What's next? Self-driving cars? What could go wrong?

I am hardly a Luddite and I use technology all the time. But we seem to be having problems right and left with the release of these technologies.
