Haberman thinks Trump may slip out, shutdown or not, for the Log-O-Merde New Years party.

Trump may skip his NYE party to avoid uncomfortable questions during shutdown: Maggie Haberman

https://www.rawstory.com/2018/12/trump-may-skip-nye-party-avoid-uncomfortable-questions-shutdown-maggie-haberman/

Melania Trump has already returned to Mar-A-Lago, and Haberman thinks the president will likely follow—unless he wants to dodge uncomfortable questions there.

“My guess has always been that he will likely end up in Florida, but he has said to a number of people that he doesn’t think he can do that given the shutdown,” she said. “They’ve got that big New Year’s Eve party every year at Mar-A-Lago that he really likes going to. I think there is some other event that’s happening there a few days later that he really was looking forward to going to. He was looking forward to this trip.”

But while Mar-A-Lago “has always been where he seems the happiest and the most contented,” Haberman says the shutdown has spoiled that.

“I think he has been looking forward to it less in recent weeks because it’s going to mean a ton of glad-handing, and interfacing, and answering questions he doesn’t necessarily know the answer to,” she said.

Doesn't matter who is in the white house, nothing is happening until the 3rd.

Might as well enjoy New Years.

excuse to go to Mar-A-Lago for NYE. He'll make it look like it was a big sacrifice for him and a brave thing for him to do to go to Iraq - and he's entitled to enjoy NYE in Florida.

And play golf. Lots of golf.

That PR nightmare will break him. To the press corps - please take a LOT of full-colour, 8 x 10 glossy pictures of that.

...the government zeroes-out the encryption key in his secure phone, changes the password to his Twitter account without giving him the new one, confiscates all communication devices Trump and his family have, invokes the same provision in the 25th Amendment that let Poppy Bush assume the mantle of "president pro tem" while Reagan was in surgery after John Hinckley shot him, grounds Air Force One and removes the starter motor from the presidential limousine until Trump agrees to end the shutdown.

Trump is currently holding the country hostage. Fair is fair.
