Giuliani comes out and makes a statement: "It doesn't matter if he was stabbed six times, with 12 witnesses, it is not a crime". That is about how absurd he has become as the spokesman for Donald Trump.
Trump shuts down the government and goes to Iraq. If that is not a big enough distraction, what else can he do? Except keep the government closed?
The sense is that the Mueller investigation is getting very close to some new charges and indictments. The White House knows that he has the goods. And the panic has set in.

(32,639 posts)The naked selfie was found on one of the phones belonging to the Russian trolls/KGB who got indicted a couple months ago. Apparently Mueller's investigators found a whole bunch of stuff on their phones because they never thought they'd be arrested, so they weren't very careful to delete things. Well that's what I've read in the last couple of days anyway.

I remember all the predictions of him quitting during the primaries, then he was going to quit after he won, then in six months....on and on.
Itll be over when its over. I cant wait.
But no one here has a damn clue when that will happen.

(10,252 posts)Can't imagine what Trump feels. Whatever he feels is delusional.
PatSeg
(47,468 posts)probably far worse than we are imagining. He's undoubtedly freaking out, wondering how much of it Mueller knows. I don't generally believe in torture, but for all the cruel mean things that Trump has done to other people, he deserves the pain and anxiety he is going through right now.
vlyons
(10,252 posts)Not even Trump. I want him to wake up and see the light. I doubt that he knows the extent of what he has done, or much care. He probably knows that he has laundered Russian mob money and lied on his taxes. But to him it's not wrong; it's just being "smart." That tax dollars fund stuff like food inspections, mine safety, environmental clean-ups, education, and feed people, etc -- well he doesn't think that far ahead. He sees only the bottom line in his profit & loss statements.
If I thought it was possible that Trump would have some Scrooge like epiphany, I would prefer that, but I find it highly unlikely. He needs to face the consequences of his actions and that will include some pain and suffering.
I know what you mean about Trump thinking he is being "smart", not necessarily corrupt, though he'd be quick to attack anyone else who did business the way he does. He is very selective in his judgments and his goal seems to be "Don't get caught".
vlyons
(10,252 posts)big big suffering. The Wheel of Sharp Weapons will roll right over him, back up and re-roll over him. When his karma ripens, it won't be pretty. And he won't learn anything from it either. But even so, I don't wish him, or anyone, ill.

(47,468 posts)though not nearly as bad and when karma pays a visit, they still don't get it. They are quick to blame others or the system or the government or bad luck.
There are people who just can't get out of subjective gear and see the big picture. I once was riding with my sister-in-law who was mad at her husband and it showed in her driving, as she aggressively tailgated the car ahead of her. She looked up at the rear view mirror and saw someone on her ass and she exploded, never seeing the obvious lesson.

Of course they are misinformed and have been from years of watching fox news but its still the case.
Guilliani is trying to muddy the waters so we are exhausted and want o move on.
This will just end with Trump getting defeated in 2020 or 2024 (2020 most likely) and people move on.

(32,639 posts)The Prague GPS spotters on Cohen's phone makes it look suspiciously like Donnie used Cohen's phone and took it into Czech Republic. Plus Donnie Jr. speaks fluent Czech since his childhood. The only thing that could save him is if Cohen falls on his sword and says he's the one who went to Prague. Pretty sure that's not gonna happen.
There's a possibility they both went to Prague together, but either way they've nailed Donnie Jr.
Anybody taking bets on how much Jr. will tell about what his Dad knew before the election?

Scott Dworkin found an interview where Jr is on tape saying that he spoke Czech language fluently and spent a lot of time there when he was growing up with his grandfather while it was Communist.
Here's his thread with this info in it.

Here's my wild theory.
Michael Cohen swears he was not in Prague, but his phone pinged there. My guess is that Jr went to Prague to pay off the hackers and there is the direct link to what's his name drumpf - trump - orange maggot.

(14,491 posts)My suspicion is that the billionaires that put tRump in office like Mercer, Adelson and the Koch bunch are livid that their boy ain't doing so well and they fear a total GOP collapse. I'm betting the word was passed down to tRump's minders for him to get his shit together or they'll turn on him. Just look at the things he's been doing that just are not his style.
The signs:
* Trump didn't go to his big party at Mar-A-Lago. Traditionally, no one tells tRump he can't go anywhere, much less a worship-a-thon like that party would have been. And, his golf buddies lost a lot of money on that lost deal.
* Trump visited the troops, including a very long flight. We all know he hated doing that.
* I also suspect some people made some very high-level calls to resuscitate the stock market to pull it out of dead cat bounce mode.
* The recent installation of more radical right-wing nutjobs in key positions like Sec. of Defense and Chief of Staff.

(32,639 posts)These guys you mention - the Koch Brothers, Robert Mercer, Marvin Adelson and several others - aren't Republicans, they're Libertarians. They hate all government and they hate the GOP probably just as much. They tried to run a Libertarian candidate for President in 1980 and flopped on their faces.
So the Koch Brothers decided to slowly methodically take over the Republican Party and mold it into what they really wanted. It's taken them a long time but they finally succeeded. They got their huge payday with the tax cuts bill, and they've packed the courts with the RWNJ judges. The Executive Branch is non-functional and that's all they cared about. If Trump hangs himself out to dry now, it won't matter in the slightest. They always knew he'd be a liability, they just bet they could keep him in long enough to get the "real" dirty work done.
KY_EnviroGuy
(14,491 posts)I knew those guys had Libertarian leanings but hadn't thought of it in that light. In other words, they're covertly converting an existing party rather than trying to sell their ideas independently. The Paul boys should be delighted!
Republicans have always been good at masking-over their dirty work, and I agree that Trump has been the perfect tool to execute Libertarian concepts. I remember well myself being fooled for a while in thinking that the AntiWar.com web site was a great thing back at the start of W's Iraq war. I finally saw through the ruse after seeing links to Rothbard, Mises, and all those freaks.
What's killing us is the marriage of Libertarianism with free-market ideology, the perfect couple for destroying the America we know and love.
In essence, greedy wealthy people are capturing and adulterating almost every human ideology (religion, liberal philosophy, art, pure science, etc.) and using them for their gain.

I've been saying for a while that if there's a single good thing that comes out of the Trump era, it is that the global public will be far more aware of the dark, corrupt underbelly of the corporate world.
Thanks goodness for our courts and revelations such as the Panama Papers investigation.....
