Can someone explain the firearms thing to me?
My house is a safe zone. Firearms are welcome. Coffee can be on in minutes, and I've always got cold water, a glass of wine, a shot of whiskey, or a cold beer. My table is non-judgmental. Any family or friend who needs to chat is welcome. We can talk, share a laugh, a cry, or just listen. If you're hungry, I'll feed you. I will always do my best to be available... you are always welcome!! This is an old school value that has been lost to technology...a text, facetime, gif or emoji is NOT the equivalent. I'm hoping, at least one friend copies this and posts it if you feel the same. Wishing everyone a healthy, happy new year! Much love all ❤️

(14,249 posts)Everything else in the post applies to my home. But your firearms are NOT welcome - that's one of the reasons my home is a safe space for everyone.

(17,006 posts)The rest is a justification of why the first part doesn't make him a gun toting jerk although citing "an old school value" makes me wonder.

There are hundreds of these chain-letter posts on FB. Some say "I'll bet this post about a wounded soldier won't get even one like or share!" Or, "I'll know who my REAL friends are by who shares this!"
Your friend didn't write this and probably only skimmed it before posting. The word stupid comes to mind.
Exactly.

(12,659 posts)Suggesting that the "old school" virtues are based on Family, Guns, and God, and snowflake Modern City Folks who don't like Guns are selfish idiot heathens who will learn the hard way how wise the old ways really were.
Totally ignoring that most families during the pre-Andy Griffith period may have only had one firearm around the house to take care of varmints - a shotgun, and only that if they lived in the country. If there were multiple guns around the house, it was usually due to a male relative who had gone off to War and managed to smuggle his rifle or revolver back afterwards.
Most people before the NRA started getting into GOP politics and started spreading FUD didn't have to create a "Safe Zone" in their homes - unless they were living overseas in a War Zone and were part of the resistance, or were involved in Gang warfare and needed a base to operate from.
I've not heard usage of the terms "safe house" or "safe zone" amongst regular citizens outside of movies until the 2000's with the rise of the Rapturists and NRA/KKK crossover nuts.

(11,479 posts)nonsense and is nonjudgmental. Hmmm let me show up with anti-trump shirt or pin. Add in so alcholol with all her gun toting friends...I might be looking down the nose of a revolver.

(54,770 posts)My experience is that most gun toting, gun promoters, are the type who vote for trump. "Old school value" is another tip off.
I'm sure there are exceptions, but not many.

(57,097 posts)stopping off for a shot and some BS-ing between Target or WalMart and "the old ball and chain at home" or the job - probably not.
Been in on one accidental firing that could have been avoided several simple different ways and at a kitchen table with three out of four guys who all knew better. No one got hurt. But a .357 round did find its way through our ceiling and the Maple floor of the surprised neighbor upstairs. Came through not a whole lot more than a foot from his face laying on the couch watching a game one Saturday. Nothing stronger than coffee on the table this once.
A weapon may get into my house now. But if you're not a cop, its going to be unloaded.

(58,662 posts)Hell, I don't share hardly anything. Usually it is some sappy bullshit about shit I don't care about.
And if somebody doesn't think I'm a friend unless I publish and push their bullshit, well there you go.
