Key players in new fight over Trump tax returns

House Democrats see getting President Trump’s tax returns as one of their top oversight priorities — and they are bracing for a fight in the new year.

Trump is the first president in decades who hasn’t made his tax returns public.

Democrats want to review Trump’s returns in order to get more information about any potential conflicts of interest.

The federal tax code provides that the Treasury secretary “shall furnish” any tax returns requested by a chairman of a congressional tax committee, so long as the panel reviews the returns in a closed session. The committee could then vote to issue a report that makes some or all of the return public.

ultimately they dont turn them over to us, or AT LEAST summarize them to us.

The ONLY way that does NOT happen is if rump and the GOP violate the law and stop it somehow.

The minute it goes public, Trump will have no choice but to resign as well as Pence.

SCOTUS still might stipulate the use Waters makes of 45's returns.

So it might not be allowed to go public. But it could convince enough Repubs to vote for impeachment and call for 45's resignation.

If the returns don't change Repubs' minds, they might somehow get leaked.

Then what. More legal or political hell for Democrats to pay?

It's going to get pretty tense.

Get thee to thy local Indivisible group in the new year! They urge meeting with your reps, where you’re literally in their faces and that have to take note of your priorities (your “asks”) and pass your message on up their food chain. That is, if it’s a staffer and not the representative him/herself. Doesn’t matter. Do it ANYWAY. and then immediately plan out the next meeting in the next month. And on.

and dare the House Dems to do something about it.

You can expect the same response to other subpoenas from House committees.

Trump's goal is Putin's goal: create disgust and distrust of the government, which correlates to the Republican Party's goal of diminishing the role of government in addressing important national issues.
