Maybe if there were a list of qualifications to work off of, it would be easier to narrow down the field.
--------------
please exclude "must be a democrat" as a qualification. I said Democratic candidate.
I'm looking for a constructive thread about competence for the job, not a thinly disguised "Anti-Bernie thread"

Bonus points if they focus on climate change, campaign finance reform, regulation of the financial system and combating propaganda.

I suspect most of the "be a Democrat" answers come from the same impulse.

(33,345 posts)Must be a US Citizen.
Must be under 70, preferably under 60.
Must be genuine.
Must be charismatic.
Must be quick-witted.
Must understand the age we live in (the Internet and digital campaigning, trolls, bots, etc.)
Must be willing to call Trump's bullshit out to his face as such. No "misstatements", call it bullshit. It is.
Must be willing to point at Trump's hair and laugh.

(18,123 posts)Any president should have a strong vision and the ability to inspire the nation to follow. Someone who can articulate that vision clearly and simply. It's going to take that kind of charisma to go toe to toe with trump.
That said, I'll vote for any Democrat who wins the nomination.

Womens rights.
Equality including targeted payouts for the historically oppressed.
No fear in talking about an aggressive change to the tax code.
I would like someone with competent knowledge of the structure of the federal government but that is not necessary.
Ill wait for the primaries and then it will be like defining porn. Ill know it when I see it.

(4,066 posts)If we want to lose the next election we can all fight about how the candidate, whomever that may be, does not support this or does not support that. Isn't strong enough in their support for X or Y.
That's the way to lose again.
The way to win again is to vote for the Democratic candidate.
