Lawmakers punt shutdown to new Congress

Congress is effectively kicking the partial government shutdown into 2019.

Both chambers met briefly on Monday but did not take action to fully reopen the government.

The Senate, with only Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) present, met on Monday for roughly a minute without taking up legislation to fund roughly 25 percent of the government. The House held a similar session.

Both chambers will meet again on Wednesday, when they are expected to formally adjourn the 115th Congress.

The decision to kick the funding fight until later in the week will push the partial shutdown closer to its two-week mark after Congress missed the Dec. 21 deadline to fund the rest of the government.

I really wish the media would adopt a more realistic attitude. It was pretty apparent that as soon as Trump decided to throw his tantrum that the Republican-controlled Congress would do nothing about it. But the people were treated to endless speculations and scenarios about how this could all get worked out with a shutdown. None of it was realistic or based on any known facts. Yeah, simply saying that congressional Republicans were going to shirk their duty is boring, but it's the fucking TRUTH. Not everything has to be turned into a horse race or a reality show cliffhanger. Sometimes elected officials are as predictable as the sun coming up in the east, and pretending otherwise does a horrible disservice to the public.

McConnell is on a different page than Trump, not happening. This is the Right Wing's game plan. The Oligarchs are loving the mess they created by appointing Donald Trump as their Patsy knowing full well we would get to this point.

History is replete with how we got here. The Wealth Class has been hoping for this day, they do not want Tax Payer paid Employees.
