Prediction: By Summer 2019, the Dems will uncover enough evidence to impeach Trump

It may come from Mueller. It may be in addition to Mueller. It may come from something that hasn't even been in the news, but by Summer 2019, or even earlier, the Dems through rputine congressional oversight hearings will uncover enough evidence to impeach Trump and possibly have members of his family indicted.

Now, will they impeach him knowing that the Senate won't vote to convict? Well, if you catch someone comitting a crime but don't prosecute because you fear that the jury won't convict, then that would be cowardly. If the House Democrats have enough evidence to impeach, then they must do so.

if Mitch and the Senate Republicans won't convict when there's overwhelming evidence of guilt, then we'll be in the early stages of a Cold Civil War.

For example?

The Justice department policy against indicting a President wouldn't apply to New York State's attorney general.

... what Mueller knows, the GOP will have no choice but to vote to impeach. No choice whatsoever.

And don't think they don't know that. They know that what Mueller has waaay more than paying off mistresses and running a scam "charity". They know that Mueller hasn't spent hundreds of hours with people like Flynn and Cohen because he enjoys their company. They know that there is a shit-load of provable evidence against their boy for a lot more than encouraging a little "pay to play" scheme at his DC hotel.

Trump is already the GOP's greatest liability going into the 2020 election. Everything that is exposed about him by Mueller (and whatever investigations the House Dems conduct) will just be more fuel on the fire.

In addition, their "pResident" is not doing their bidding anyway. As a result of his actions, their party is being blamed for the tariffs and the subsequent economic losses (among other things) - and now the shutdown.

As dumb as Republicans can be, they know there are some crimes their "pResident" has committed that can't be covered-up or explained away - and they're not about to try doing either once incontrovertible evidence is revealed.

If Trump thinks the Republican party will continue to have his back after Mueller starts exposing him, he'd do well to remember the other "trusted associates" who have already kicked him to the curb to save their own skins. Imagine how much more important it is to the GOP to save their entire party.

Assuming Pence escapes Mueller's scrutiny unscathed, he's just the type of bland, uninteresting, "good Christian values", white-bread candidate that the Evangelicals will cling to - and the easily-led "base" will follow suit.

Protecting Trump is already a dicey proposition for the Republicans. And the odds against them will go up with every Mueller revelation.

The next few months are going to be a two-choice option for the GOP: get in the lifeboats and row as far away as possible, or go down with the ship.

Great post, as always, Nance.

Remember that Pence was the head of Trump's transition team. He was pushed on Trump by that "honest broker," Manafort. He spoke with Flynn all the time. Pence will be caught up in the Russian part of Trump's criminality.

However, doing so now would short-circuit Mueller's work and would leave many misdeeds hidden from the public. The House needs to do its job while allowing Mueller to finish his. The public needs to be informed. The thing that can speed this up is the level of danger posed by TrumPutin.

For all else, see NanceGreggs post #2, above.
