Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen are hammered (doing tequila shots on air) and it shows. Their part was pretty bad.
My wife swears Don Lemon is about to hurl.
Bill Weir in Key West was clearly smashed. The drag queen drop wasn't actually shown.
Don't know her name but another CNN anchor just had champagne poured down her throat by a guy in a Superman outfit. She's on a "super yacht".
The highlight was clearly Keith Urban and Peter Frampton playing "Sweet Home Alabama".
Oh and Dave Chapelle was live from my hometown of Yellow Springs Ohio. Cooper and Cohen had some sort of delay that made everything fall flat.
Say what you will about Dick Clark but he certainly knew how to put on a show.

(12,158 posts)I was looking for it after I heard some anchor or another say it would be a soggy ball drop. My son heard "soggy balls drop." Maybe my eyes were focused on the wrong place.

(30,540 posts)It was the show that was always on NYE when I was a kid, Guy Lombardo was classy. I have to admit though I really enjoyed seeing the high society of New York cutting loose at the Waldorf Astoria while all liquored up!

(16,411 posts)I saw the Chappelle interview. I liked the broadcast better with Kathy Griffin but that it is a shit show is part of the appeal IMO. Don was far more hammered last year. As for the Key West thing, no way in the world theyre going to cut to Key West from Times Square at midnight on New Years. They did show a brief clip a few minutes later. Dicks shows were always a bore fest from where Im sitting. Different strokes I guess.

(41,988 posts)He was subdued this year. I love The Spotted Cat and the joy of a New Orleans Party. The technical stuff was awful but the rain may have been a factor. They were either oddly or deliberately unprepared.
But hey, its 2019! Happy New Year! 🥂🍾🎉

I enjoyed that, I needed a Lombardo fix!

(102,317 posts)The ONLY reason I ever watched any of those shows, including Dick Clark's replacement, Ryan Seacrest, was to watch the damned ball drop. But, they ALWAYS jump back to local news at 10 pm/midnight, never actually showing the damned ball drop. I thought it was in error at first, but nope..
Apparently now, they return to the pre-midnight TAPED coverage AFTER the local news (something they never used to do) to "simulate" being in the same time zone, but, I'm done at that point. Hell, even the neighborhood kids set off the fireworks at 10 pm here, in acknowledgement of New Years on the East Coast.
Kathy and Cooper were pretty vulgar together on CNN in the past, but at least it was amusing. Now, meh.
Happy New Years without live tv for me.
