(9,894 posts)of his alleged crimes, I was here at the time. I was under the impression that this was a liberal board and that tolerance for different opinions was part of the deal, although I have since learned that this is not the case. I often didn't agree with him, but his way of looking at things was and is certainly part of the existing political discourse.
As far as the used car salesman comment, that was an emotional comment made at an extreme moment that people choose to overreact to for reasons that escape me. I can only figure that people who were looking for a bludgeon to use against him saw what they decided was a handy weapon and decided to play dense when it came to the context.
If people who call themselves liberal decide to ride somebody out of town on a rail for expressing alternate liberal opinions, they should at least have the awareness not to gloat about it.

As was pointed out to him during that infamous thread, perhaps he should have researched ACA coverage before he moved to a rural area.
Also, several of us helped him solve the problem within a few hours. And yet, that hateful thread was active for days with many of his compatriots piling on with their opinions about how terrible President Obama was.

Hekate
(90,750 posts)...the problem had nothing to do with Obama and the fault was not in the ACA after all.
WRP failed to do basic due diligence into his chosen health plan before signing up for it and before moving to a different state. He failed to do his due diligence in checking the plan's formulary for his wife's medications. He failed to learn his plan's procedures for getting his and his wife's doctors to request exemptions, changes, and exceptions from the plan.
I'm genuinely sorry his wife has a chronic and incurable disease. I am sorry these procedures are a pain in the ass. But he knew she was sick when he courted her. And every single one of us out here with a pre-existing condition and/or an adverse drug reaction has had to follow these same procedures to get the care we need and are paying for. Every single time my husband's employer changes our health plan, he personally goes over the paperwork with a fine-tooth comb -- because between the two of us we have about a dozen permanent meds, and some of the generics make us sick, and nearly all the brand names are hellishly expensive. It's just what you have to do, dammit.
But no. WRP got a case of raging hysteria and aimed it at President Obama. And every time someone here tried to help him with facts rather than joining in the rage-fest, he just doubled down.
So a lot of us are pretty much done with him and are flat-out of fucks to give.

(3,259 posts)Well, they were in Paradise. They were finally let back in two weeks ago. They knew from pictures they had seen that their home was gone. They went back to sift through the ashes and to find closure. They are people of very limited means but have shown enormous strength through all of this. From knowing them and what happened after evacuating, I just want to say a big thanks to the Red Cross. The Red Cross helped shelter them until they were given the means to make it to a family members house. The family members who took them in have very very little. Through a successful yet small Go Fund Me campaign they have already secured a cheap place. Its not home.

(5,071 posts)I'm glad your friends got help from the Red Cross shelter. It might be worth talking to RC again now that they have a new place. I was with RC in another state, at another time, but we tried to replace the basics of a home. There was a regulation book about what we could replace (not a TV, but essentials like medicines and a few changes of clothes). That said, it's many years later, and the devastation was so widespread that there may not be much help, when the available money has to spread between so many people. I'd certainly call, though.

(45,120 posts)By these standards, any outlet that raises the alarm about the considerable presence of extreme right-wing elements among the post-Maidan Ukrainian government or that questions the Western- and Saudi-funded campaign for regime change in Syria can be designated a Russia dupe or a paid agent of the FSB. Indeed, while admitting that they have no idea whether any of the outlets they blacklisted are being paid by Russian intelligence or are even aware they are spreading Russian propaganda, PropOrNots authors concluded that any outlets that have met their highly politicized criteria have effectively become tools of the Russian intelligence services, and are worthy of further investigation.

He claimed that Chairman Meow and Uncle Ho-ho-ho were going to dine with him, if I remember incorrectly. Thus, the court battle that is secret and of the Mueller investigation is likely about Mr. Pitt being subpoenaed to testify about his role in the Trump-Russian scandal.

Im just a Democrat, I want Democrats to win. I believe in sharing wealth and universal healthcare and war is horrific. I also believe centuries of white, male colonial rule and philosophy has put us in a very delicate place that wont be fixed by politics based on slogans, but in depth analysis before action and diplomacy.
So people who use creative writing skills in an attempt to demonstrate our current policy situation do not necessarily impress me. But then, Im just a Democrat.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)What's more meaningful -- will go down in thick histories about HOW it happened? : Loyally admiring the Progressive candidate no matter what he did? Or helping elect tRump/Repubilcans by helping corrupt the understanding and faith in the Democratic Party of millions of potential voters, some of whom will continue to act out his influence long after he's gone, maybe the rest of their lives?
This article was written while mentally screwed-over Sanders supporters were angrily shouting their belief that Democrats had stolen the nomination at the Democratic National Convention. AND while knowing tRump was the Republican nominee for president, one election from the Oval Office. My god! How could he?
I'm sorry he died, above all because his little daughter has lost her father.
But at the time he wrote this article, the candidate who was up to his standard had already claimed dozens of state Democratic primaries had been "rigged" (sound familiar?), had already filed and dropped many fake, baseless lawsuits as part of slandering his opponent and the party (misuse of courts sound familiar?), and had already repeatedly promised to overset the electoral sovereignty of the 30M Democrats who voted, plus all who didn't, by trying to have himself illicitly named as the Democratic Party nominee by superdelegates (sound like something tRump tried to do?).
And Pitt supported all this instead of denouncing it and taking a stand to protect democracy and the right of the people to decide.
It's not somehow now all okay. Being a nice guy doesn't make it okay. It'll never just be okay. Pitt really should have to live with the consequences of kicking at the supports of our democracy, along with the rest of us and all our loved ones. Among other big reasons, because the well over 1M Americans who've died dreadfully in the resultant Republican-promoted holocaust can't.
