WASHINGTON (Reuters) U.S. Strategic Command, which oversees the countrys nuclear arsenal, apologized for a Twitter message saying it was ready if necessary to drop something much, much bigger than the New Years Eve ball in New York and showing a clip of an aircraft releasing bombs.
#TimesSquare tradition rings in the #NewYear by dropping the big ball
if ever needed, we are #ready to drop something much, much bigger, the tweet said, hours before the midnight descent of the illuminated ball in New Yorks Times Square marking the arrival of the new year.
The video showed a B-2 bomber dropping bombs, followed by explosions on the ground.

Later on Monday, the message was deleted from the U.S. Strategic Commands Twitter feed. A new message said: Our previous NYE tweet was in poor taste & does not reflect our values. We apologize. We are dedicated to the security of America & allies.

(118,724 posts)have turned into cyber attacks. Are you against defending against Russia interference in US elections? I would hope any democracy's military would have some values. I don't always agree for sure. But it is called the defence department. And thank God this autocratic display of might on New Years Eve was a bridge too far for the military of a Democratic country to go. I wonder who thought it up. That may come out some day. Plus the deal the us military has with the country is that they will do what they need to do and not draft anybody. That they will not intefere in the lives of americans at home except for at football games. At least that seems to be the marketing. This goes against that deal.
