But you do realize that this kind of thing happens all over the world all the time right?

Germany, the UK, Denmark, Sweden, Canada, and so on all have taken in proportionally much larger numbers of refugees and integrated them into their political infrastructure much more thoroughly than in the US.

I am not at all knocking this wonderful woman or the opportunities she found in the US, but the truth is that the "American Dream" is just as common, and indeed lately MORE common, in other countries.

of perhaps the last 20 to 25 years-- The US has a far longer record
as a destination for those seeking refuge or economic opportunity.

I am so tired of old white men (sometimes women) or their surrogates telling us how we should lead our lives. And I'm an old white man.

I'd far prefer to have young people with a varied background be able to project what they'd like to have as their future.

These future leaders will also have to deal with the problems of money/influence, bribes/corruption, age/senility (in time), but I trust any new blood more than cold-blooded reptiles and cold-brained oranganuses (not naming names.)

More women , minorities, more people of different faiths , being elected to Congress. We still need more diversity to include everyone.

I'm thrilled with the barriers that are coming down in our government and politics; the advances made by women, women of color, Native Americans, and women of all creeds and ethnicities.

But we lag so far behind other countries it's embarrassing. We still do not have a female head of state, While Great Britain has had 2. Short list of current female world leaders.

Angela Merkel. Chancellor of Germany since 2005. ...
Theresa May. Prime Minister of the United Kingdom since 2016. ...
Jacinda Ardern...Prime Minister of New Zealand since 2017
Ana Brnabić...Prime Minister of Serbia since 2017
Bidhya Devi Bhandari. ...President of Nepal since 2015
Erna Solberg...Prime Minister of Norway since 2013
Saara Kuugongelw...Prime Minister of Namibia since 2015.
Halimah Yacob...President of Singapore since 2017
Sheikh Hasina...Prime Minister of Bangladesh since 2009
Tsai Ing-wen...President of Taiwan since 2016

And that doesn't include Margaret Thatcher, Indira Gandhi, Benazir Bhutto and all the women leaders past and present, while the US gets excited about increasing the number of women in Congress. Yes we should be glad things are moving in the right direction, but we have so far to go before we can pat ourselves on the back.

Not even a female Vice President for God's sakes. SMH
