(53,521 posts)The American people are that stupid, look at all the unplanned pregnancies by people who don't use contraception and are sure they won't get pregnant.

(2,715 posts)1.) the premise for "Idiocracy"... where the stupid people keep having kids, and the smart people have a far smaller number.
2.) What if all of the smart and motivated people left Missouri? Sort of a mass walk out?

I'm not stupid and "unplanned pregnancies" which follow the ideation
you present are usually the result of youthful naivete, not lack of intelligence.

(13,426 posts)The views in DC of a Missouri politician in August are largely immaterial.

(3,023 posts)George Allen made that offensive comment before August and it was still an issue throughout the election.

(13,426 posts)Sensible MO voters were already supporting McCaskill. Unfortunately, like in FL, the crazy, zombie-like voters of the Repubs in MO love someone like Akin.

(29,674 posts)I live in Missouri and this article is all over Facebook, many of the "shares" from people here in Missouri. I know of ten people right now who would never have voted for Claire but now say they will. Why would they cross their party lines? Because even they think the comment was disgusting.
I think this is it. National has it and local is running with it as the top story on the 10 o'clock news, referring to it as an "offensive" comment made by Akin.

(59,504 posts)That you personally know that many people who will change based on this is amazing - and it makes sense given how appalling the comment was. Thanks for the insight into your state. Great that this is getting a lot of coverage.
Let's hope that he is too arrogant to accept that he is toast and refuses to step down. I assume that if he refuses, the Republicans are stuck with him.

(29,674 posts)most don't go for any comments about rape. Most conservatives DO believe that a woman should be allowed to have an abortion in the case of rape, even if they believe it should otherwise be illegal. And this strikes far too close to home for many.
And the arguments are getting louder on Facebook against this guy every hour. There will still be some who vote the party line no matter what, even if they don't agree with him. There will still be some who actually believe in what he says. Most seem to be very upset with his comments-people who are pretty conservative are actually coming out against him once they've had proof that he actually said it.
Oh, and this is the lead story here in the KC area on the 10 o'clock news, according to the teasers. Once you get the news organizations on your side you'll be able to get the independent voters.
