Reuters: Sanders supporters banned from Tinder after campaigning on dating app

At one time, I recall how it was considered a feature of Bernie's campaign of how he used female supporters to stump for him through dating apps such as Tinder. Even on this Board, this was hailed and innovate and edgy at the time. The article below is just one of several that highlighted how Bernie's campaign was leveraging sex appeal with political activism. Yet, the campaign now seems to be distancing itself from such practices in a post me-too environment.

(Reuters) - Stumping for Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on Tinder is getting some women banned from the online dating app after sending campaign messages to prospective matches.

Two women - one from Iowa and the other from New Jersey - confirmed to Reuters on Friday that they received notices from Tinder in the previous 24 hours that their accounts were locked because they had been reported too many times for peppering men on the site with messages promoting Sanders’ candidacy.

Robyn Gedrich, 23, said she sent messages to 60 people a day for the past two weeks trying to convince them to support the U.S. senator from Vermont in his race for the Democratic nomination against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“Do you feel the bern?” her message to other Tinder users read, parroting a Sanders campaign slogan. “Please text WORK to 82623 for me. Thanks.”

Bernie Sanders, the 'sexy' Democrat with friends on Tinder

As the race to become the Democratic presidential candidate heats up in the United States, the left-leaning Bernie Sanders has become a surprising star on social media, with young voters using mobile phone apps to push others to #feelthebern.

As Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders clashed in their first one-on-one debate it was the senator from Vermont who started to trend worldwide.

So what are Bernie's supporters doing differently to bolster his support amongst younger voters? One place where he is a surprising hit is the dating app Tinder.

Kevin Smit from Alkmaar in the Netherlands has used Tinder to spread the Bernie gospel. "I'm not a heterosexual male and I too believe he's sexy" he joked to BBC News

2. Bernie Sanders denies knowledge of alleged sexual harassment amid 2016 race: "I was a little busy"

And here is Bernie from yesterday. He denies knowledge, yet it was well reported at how his campaign was leveraging sex appeal to appeal to young people by, among other things, using dating apps like Tinder. Of course, even on this Board, this was not really condemned. At the time, this was seen as cutting edge and innovative.

https://www.salon.com/2019/01/03/bernie-sanders-denies-knowledge-of-alleged-sexual-harassment-amid-2016-race-i-was-a-little-busy/

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who is allegedly becoming more serious by the day about forging a second White House bid to challenge President Donald Trump in 2020, offered an apology to former women staffers from his 2016 presidential campaign who have in recent days raised complaints of sexual harassment.

"I certainly apologize to any woman who felt she was not treated appropriately," Sanders told CNN's Anderson Cooper Wednesday evening. "And, of course, if I run, we will do better the next time."

While he said he was "proud" of his campaign, Sanders admitted that allegations of mistreatment were "not dealt with as effectively as possible." At the same time, the senator maintained he only recently learned of the accusations, which he claims he was not aware of during the campaign. "I was a little busy running around the country, trying to make the case" for the election, Sanders said, attributing any missteps with staff to his campaign's overwhelming growth and momentum.

I don't care if the person involved is a Democratic contender. He. Is. Wrong.

7. Vox - Single and feeling the Bern? This dating site is for you.

It was not just tinder. Bernie's campaign was praised on numerous outlets regarding how romance was leveraged together with political support. It was not just being progressive. It was dating centered around support for Bernie Sanders. It is just odd how the campaign is now distancing itself from what was once featured, the sex appeal of the Bernie Sanders campaign.

I just recall it being weird, because I understand being attracted to people with similar political philosophies, but all these stories back in 2016 about Bernie Singles mixing romance with politics. In other words, back then, no one was seeing this as sexual harassment or exploitation. Rather, it was seen as an innovative use of social media.

Say you’re spending your days drinking out of a Bernie Sanders coffee mug, sporting your Bernie Sanders underwear, and maybe even sleeping with a little crocheted Bernie doll with a perfect wisp of white hair. But say that’s not enough.

Well, a new dating site has answered your prayers. By joining BernieSingles.com, you can now even snatch up your very own Bernie Bro — or lady.

That’s right: A dating site has cropped up exclusively to make romantic pairings amongst the Vermont senator’s most enthusiastic fans. Especially after two Sanders supporters were booted off the popular dating app Tinder for using the app to recruit volunteers, it's time they have a dating platform of their own. The site’s creators are clearly onto something – young people love Bernie, and they also love online dating.

But the people behind BernieSingles.com might have underestimated just how many young singles are looking for democratic socialist mates. The Hill reports that the site crashed on Wednesday after attracting 1,000 users in an hour. And the server likely couldn’t keep pace with demand on Thursday either, suffering more intermittent outages in the morning.

Sexual harassment on the campaign. I think they were talking about the inappropriate behavior that is rampant in most field and campaign offices. I have first hand experience seeing this on multiple campaigns including Obama's. Bernies was only one where this likely occured.

10. He is right in the thick of things with Weaver and Perez.

Sanders’s 2016 strategist, Tad Devine, and campaign manager, Jeff Weaver, applauded the new approach.

“They were genuinely interested in learning what went right, which was not much, and what went wrong, which was a lot,” said Weaver, who is likely to be involved if Sanders runs again. “I recommended starting the process earlier, so it is not right on top of the primaries and caucuses.”

In his conversations with Perez and Cahill, Devine suggested that the party adopt a broader method of qualifying for the debate stage than the one used in 2016, which required candidates to get at least 1 percent support in three national primary polls. An October poll this year by CNN found 14 potential candidates with support from 1 percent or more of the primary electorate, although not all of them are likely to run.

“My suggestion on that is that it not be one single standard,” Devine said. “Polling should be part of it. There are also resources, people who follow you on Facebook, or follow you on Twitter, fundraising.”

Yeah, let's use Facebook and Twitter followers as a fucking method of qualifying for the debate stage. Facebook and Twitter. Because it hasn't just been shown how fucking easily manipulated those platforms are.

/facepalm

I saw another thread with 2 or 3 year old articles attacking him. Seems a rehash and divisive. Also very boring. Same old shite over and over and over and over.

Don't vote for him or support him if he runs in 2020, which I hope he doesn't, but 2016 is done and dusted.

...whether there was sexism or sexual harassment going on in his campaign in 2016? I find it surprising given the sheer number of articles in early 2016 that were discussing how the Bernie Sanders campaign was leveraging social media dating platforms to get people the feel the Bern.

Are you suggesting that Bernie forgot this yesterday?

Plus, I am sure Trump is saying the same thing. "Hey, all this Russia stuff happened three years ago. C'mon!"
