House Democrats fulfill promise, vote to end government shutdown. It's all on Mitch McConnell now

The Democratic House of Representatives, under the leadership of Speaker Nancy Pelosi voted to end the government shutdown on their first day in the majority, as promised.

They split the bills in two, the first a continuing resolution to fund the Department of Homeland Security at current levels until February 8, giving all parties a month to find a solution. And Republicans enough time to convince Individual 1 that he's seriously screwed up everything by being manipulated into doing this by the Freedom Caucus maniacs and that he'll look less "foolish" if he acts like a grown-up president. That resolution, H.J. Res 1, passed 239-192, with just a five Republicans acting sanely.

The second, H.R. 21 provides regular appropriations for the remaining shut down agencies—already agreed upon by all the relevant committees—for the remainder of the fiscal year. It passed 241-190, with seven Republican defections. Drip. Drip. Drip.

So now it's on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to explain to the nation why essentially the same thing he brought to the floor under unanimous consent on December 11, and which passed there unanimously, shouldn't come to the floor again. Why 800,000 federal employees and thousands more who are contract workers for the government have to continue to go without paychecks. Why he's giving in to an unhinged, dangerous, foolish Trump.
