(6,034 posts)It's a moderate act for the folks back home.
The good things is the BS she pulled with Kavanagh ripped the moderate mask off.

(53,410 posts)But at least here on DU weve wised up after she supported Kavanaugh over Dr. Christine Blasey Fords word after pretending she thought sexual assault was a bad thing. Shes dead to us now.

(1,376 posts)Possibly, but there's also the significant reality she is a Republican senator in a state that has elected an independent who caucuses with the Democrats to the US Senate; just elected a Democratic governor and to both the state's seats in the House; has Democrats serving in the other three state constitutional offices; and she's up for re-election in 2020.
She may actually do the right thing, if not for the right reasons.

(1,376 posts)Understood, but there comes a time when every elected faces reality...
She's in a very bad position for reelection if she continues to be a Trump Administration apologist and enabler.

(53,410 posts)Or maybe youre right. Republicans always run as Democrats until they get elected. They know most constituents are low information voterswho never notice. And when things get iffy Republicans just blame the Democrats.

(8,656 posts)She's going to behave like some concerned liberal GOPer for the next 2 years to try and get re-elected then it'll be back to 6 years of shafting everyone, the witch needs to go.

(53,410 posts)I hope they use her years of pseudo concern against her.

(1,376 posts)Gov. Mills, Reps. Pingree or Golden, and/or SoS Dunlap, AG Frey, and ST Beck give a pretty good bench to the Democrats.
Golden is a Iraq/Astan veteran and voted against Pelosi as speaker, which might be enough to bring a useful number of GOPers and independents away from Collins...
She may not even run again.

(4,492 posts)That way the money will go to her eventual opponent. The state party will provide the campaign infrastructure (staff, voter database, etc) that will be needed to defeat her.
We knocked out Paul LeTrump this year with a good strong Democrat. Susan Collins is next.

(56,828 posts)that her only chance in 2020 is to turn out the Trump base that also elected Mini Trump Paul LePage to the governorship twice, which is why she voted for Kavanaugh. It's also why she'll cave on the Trump/GOP Shutdown

(6,709 posts)and LePage never won a majority
How do you EVER forget how she helped to put a pos judge that will be there for generations helping others to do what he has done. Bye, Susan!

(11,566 posts)Make no mistake, it's not about the doing what's right, it's about doing what's politically expedient for Susan Collins. However, we will accept Republican votes when they offer them.
