Trump is warning that shutdown could last "years"

President Trump stood firm Friday on his demands for a border wall after the second White House meeting with congressional leaders this week broke up with no apparent deal, as Democrats exited claiming the president told them the partial government shutdown could last "months, or even years."

What does McConnell get out of going along with this? You would think at some point both sides would say, let's just override his veto.

First: a wall cannot be built along the entire border. I've been down along the boarder off the beaten path in Southwestern New Mexico. The Terrain is too uneven. Hell, the Rocky Mountain chain extends through the boarder. You can't build a wall in the mountains.

Second: even if you could build it, it would cost significantly more than $5 billion to complete. And then there would be constant repairs.

Third: if it could be done, it would take years. Probably 10 years.

The whole idea is just stupid. You could be more effective with a lot less money. If you wanted to end illegal immigration (which I'm not convinced any except the white supremacist really do), confiscate businesses who hire and pay them under the table. Confiscate the houses of people who hire them to be housekeepers and nannies. Confiscate the farms of farmers who hire them to work in the fields.

And be serious about it.

If the jobs go away, there is no incentive to come into the country.

My preference is that way make it easier for them to get a green card. Be more effective at monitoring those whose green cards have expired. But also make it easier to renew them.

Honestly, a bigger threat to our standard of living and available jobs is the large amount of offshoring that goes on. Good paying tech jobs are sent to other countries, along with decent paying service sector jobs.

Sorry for the long rant.
