General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsShould Adam Schiff think about adding his name to the long list running for President??
I think he might do much better than he thinks he might?
Although I do think it is a little early to declare. The young guy from Texas, not Beto, is going to announce in a day or so. I think Elizabeth Warren may have announced a little early? Simply because of all the distractions that are presently going on. Although I am not sure the Presidency is the best position for her? I think she might make a great Secretary of the Treasury, with her experience. She should be in control of the relations between the big banks and Wall Street. She is very knowledgeable on such subjects.
But Adam Schiff, in my opinion, has stood out for the Democrats during this entire Russian investigation. He has been bright, courageous, and out-spoken in protecting the Special Counsel.

Many people have no desire to campaign under the floodlights for two years and have every word and gesture scrutinized and criticized.
The idea that everyone needs to be the general or the quarterback is troublesome.
We need to remember that essential work must be done in the House and Senate, too.

(13,259 posts)serve the public has to run for President. In our history there are many congresspeople and senators who have had a lasting impact.
It trivializes our politics and our form of government to think that the only significant position is that of President.

(65,340 posts)seen by so many as a king rather than a public servant.
And at the same time, as you say, it also trivializes our politics and turns the presidency into just another gossipy celebrity watching TV show as far as the voters are concerned, so they don't take seriously the job the president is supposed to do.
Trump himself obviously thinks the position is a combination of absolute monarch and prom king, and it freaks him out that he does not have the legal authority to do anything he wants, including punishing people, companies, and institutions for lese majesty. He also can't believe that as prom king he can't just expect everyone to cheer him and admire him for being, as he sees it, so extraordinarily popular.

Eventually, he will run for a CA Senator seat and then he wants to be President.
He is a patient man with his eye on the long haul.

(4,644 posts)I love Adam Schiff, and I think he's doing a great job where he is. But I don't see him as presidential material. He doesn't have any "electricity" about him. In order to be elected in America, one has to be dynamic enough to develop a following. Schiff's strengths are more nuanced and better suited for a different role.

(8,248 posts)I dont want us to fall into the trap of attacking each other. In the primaries, we will be facing each other. In order to prove youre the best, I dont think that being each other down. Everything Democratic candidates use to put down each other in the primaries, will be brought up in the general election.
For example, Sanders bringing up Clintons speeches to Wall Street and Wall Street donating to Clinton. That was used against Clinton in the general election from the left.

(92,190 posts)I personally think 5 or 6 candidates is a good number. If we start getting more than that I think the risk goes up for a very divided party, more so than it usually is. The circular firing squad is not a myth
