When Facebook friends who are not political post about something political, damage has been done

So far I have two friends who NEVER post anything political on facebook going off about the Akin rape statement. Maybe not scientific but it shows me the issue reaches far and wide and really pisses a lot of people off.

I just read that Congressman Akin serves on the House committee on Science, Space and Technology.

This is a man who doesn't understand the first thing about a woman's body, and he wants to make legislation that will control a woman's body. This is a man who believes that there is some special mechanism that kicks in, causing her body to prevent pregnancies during rape--and he has a seat in the US House Science Committee???

I've posted two things about it so far including a screen shot of the front page of the Huffington Post. I have mostly lefty friends, but a few that grumble when I post stuff. It will be interesting to see if one of the non-lefty friends will say anything.

I still live in Missouri. Even the conservatives are disgusted by this. It's all over the local and state news and it's not good at all.

of comment that could consign them to the same fate as their 19th-Century forbears, the Know-Nothings.

By the time this is over, the Dems might be the only current major party still standing. And then, I predict, Dems would break into factions: progressives vs. Blue Dogs, Socialists vs. Keynesians, etc.

I have who post political anti-Obama stuff. I have noticed a stunning silence recently. Perhaps they are not too happy with Mitt over choosing Ryan.
